Book Description

Book One of "Winter Fade" series

“Am I dead?”
“No, little brave one. You’re just beginning your new life.”

Imoen Doyle was adrift, lost with no way forward.

She had come to Los Angeles from her childhood home in Eugene, Oregon, to attend university – never realizing that fate had other plans in store for her.

A chance encounter with a renegade incubus propels her into a world whose perils force her to confront fears she set aside, and test her resolve to find her path again.

The nightmare of her introduction to her new life was only the first step.

Along the way, she will meet an array of other vampires from whom she can learn, if she can survive the lessons…

The dangers she now faces threaten Imoen and those she has grown to love, forcing her to recognize that not all choices are made freely or without cost, and that who she is will matter more than what she has become.

“You are transcended, and he is fallen.” – Isabel

“All things are born in pain.” – Elias

“Some were careless. Our life has a way of weeding that kind out.” – Darya

“Given the circumstances, her chances for survival are not good.” – Malcolm

“She isn’t ready. Pick someone else.” – Gabriel

“When it comes to war, you choose sides.” – Seth

“Don’t be afraid. I’m not going to hurt you.” – Katharine

“She’s certainly got spirit. A little fighter, ain’t she?” – Jake

“We entice the soul to leave. Where it goes from there we don’t know.” –Lucan

“She’s a succubus, you said? Her temperament would be a challenge for her to overcome.” – Brianna

“Fine. Lie there and bleed. Wait to kiss the sunrise goodbye. I figure you’ve got a little over an hour. Enjoy it.” – Toby

5.0 out of 5 stars Love at first bite! January 20, 2012
By Just Me
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It is an action packed romp from first bite to the last. But also manages to show a young woman's deeply personal transformation from introverted young lady to kick ass succubus! The characters are realistic and are people I would want to be friends with. Every woman should have a BFF like Isabel. And I want my personal trainer to be Seth (yummy)! And the villainous Aisus tribe is truly creepy!

The dream sequences are what take this book from just action packed thriller to a deeply moving personal transformation. They give this book and the main character depth and makes you care.

The plot is complex and multidimensional like the characters themselves. You won't guess the ending either. It's a real page turner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Page turner from beginning to end... February 22, 2012
By TomL
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
One is hard pressed to believe that Matthew Lee Adams has never before been published. In this, his first series (Winter Fade, Firefly Kiss, and Snowflake Promise) of Urban Fantasy offerings, Matthew delivers a cast of characters that are as distinct from each other as they are from their surroundings. Though separate they may be from the rest of us, their willingness/need to reflect, feel, and act, combine in such a way as to deliver a delightful and thought provoking twist to anyone's reading.

In Winter Fade, Imoen is forced to accept and epitomize a life not of her own choosing, but one forced upon her. And so she does, in every possible way...

"Imoen saw another man with her purse thrown down casually at his feet, the meager contents of her life spilled out before strangers. He held her wallet open while consulting his phone. "Imoen Aileen Doyle. Turned twenty-three last month. Parents and grandparents deceased. No siblings or other close living relatives. Moved from Oregon two years ago to attend university. Not currently enrolled. Working temporary jobs, six weeks at current contract. No roommate and no indication of a boyfriend or significant other in her personal things. Nobody will care if she disappears," he finished.

Imoen clenched her fist at the casual recitation of her life, the implication that it was meaningless. She fought to control her breathing, willing herself not to show any expression that could be taken as weakness."

What I enjoyed most about this book was the ease with which the storyline flowed, yet surprised. This, in combination with the depth of detail, left me with the desire to read on, hoping for more to come. I was not disappointed.
