This series is a breath of fresh air (if you will excuse the cliché-ness of the expression).
With all the stresses of life today - jobs, bills, the economy, well, you know the drill - it is really nice to be able to curl up with a book and escape to a place like Mustang Ridge. Miss Hayworth crafts a world that one would love to live in, or at the very least, book your own vacation reservation to the Mustang Ridge dude ranch. Who wouldn't want to pull up a chair and have one of Gran's muffins?? (That was not a euphemism so get your mind out of the gutter!) Okay, the men who work there MIGHT be a stronger reason to visit. Just sayin'.

One of the things that I love about these books is that I can relate to, and connect with, the characters. A lot of books these days have characters that are very hard to relate to. Personally, I'm not going to be some billionaire playboy (hopefully not since I'm female), or volunteer as tribute to some sadistic, brutal contest where I have to kill a bunch of people (let's hope!), so it's hard to relate to these characters on a personal level and put myself in their shoes. But the character's in Hayworth's novel feel like friends or family members. They are people you would like to know and hang out with. You care about them. When they are happy, you're happy. When they are hurting, you hurt for them.

I loved the first of the series, and I have to say, I love this book just as much. I related very much to the main character, Jenny, who has trekked back to Mustang Ridge from the jungles in Belize to help on the ranch while her twin sister, Krista is away. When Jenny saves an abandoned, injured dog, she meets veterinarian Nick Masterson. My question is, why can't MY vet be like that?? So unfair.

After reading Summer at Mustang Ridge, I was looking forward to another good read by this new author and I wasn't disappointed! Hayworth gives us another sweet, enjoyable book with the perfect blend of romance, humor and family, with a little sex, some adorable animals and a host of characters to fall in love with. Jenny Skye and veterinarian Nick Masterson make a great couple and their slow and easy ride getting to know each other is a pleasure for the reader. When they're happy you can feel it and when things go wrong as they so often do in relationships (and romance novels) your heart breaks with them. Add to that the spectacular setting for Mustang Ridge and a blizzard that's just made for romance and you've got a winner. The teaser at the end for Harvest at Mustang Ridge coming in August of 2014 has me anxious to see what Jenny, her twin sister Krista and the rest of the Skye family are up to next but whatever it is I'm sure love is in the air.

Five solid stars for Jesse Hayworth and Winter at Mustang Ridge.

I love this series!! It is filled with humor, and the budding love between the 2 main characters. And the rest of the family is wonderful, too!
A wonderful read!

This is a wonderful book. But it, read it. Read it again. Buy a copy for a friend so you don't have to worry about getting your copy back (yeah, yeah, ebook).

I started reading the Mustsng Ridge books because I liked the author's Mayan themed books leading up to the calendar confluence, and having met her at a booksigning, she seemed like a nice lady with a cool, science laden backstory. So despite not liking horses, the back of beyond, or small towns I figured it was worth giving her a fair shot, plus, the horses are imaginary. I liked the novella well enough for it being PG-13. I liked Summer at MR even more, having more complexity. But I was still a little iffy on the next book. Am I ever glad that I got Winter at Mustang Ridge. I read it & loved it. I kept thinking about it. I was driven to go back and read it again and it held up to greater scrutiny. It's now a comfort read. A Desert Island Keeper, if you will.

The primary conflict is that our heroine likes small towns as much as I do, and gets restless. She escaped and rarely comes home for long. But her current freelance gig is not without issues and she owes her sister some time away from the home ranch.

The setup to get Jenny home is sensible (although one of my few quibbles with the book was how little "twin time" there was), the way she meets our (her) hero Nick seems realistic enough, and there's no BS 'oh, I couldn't possibly!' going on. They're adults, they are smitten with each other, and they decide to seize the day.

The trouble isn't in whether or not they like each other.

Jesse, whether writing under this name or Jessica Anderson, knows how to dig deep into her character's psyche. Plus she writes incredibly sensuous, hot and sweet combined, stories. Her attention to the landscape / setting of her world, the animals - all characters in her story - add more layers to her stories. And always, she builds a community with her wonderful and quirky secondary characters, who all have their own stories - pieces of which add to the intensity and fullness of the story. Love this series and can't wait for the next book. Many of Jesse and Jessica's books sit on my KEEPER SHELF!
