5.0 out of 5 stars Coleman Bark's Winter Skky, October 20, 2008
This review is from: Winter Sky: New and Selected Poems, 1968-2008 (A Brown Thrasher Books Original) (Hardcover)
Winter Sky will probably rank as one of the best works by Coleman Barks.

He is a master. And his style is unique. I find that it is a celebration of life. Not just his but everyone who reads it. I love his Southern expressions which come from that deep listening. The mannerisms that only a person coming from the "Deep South" would know. He ranks as one of a kind. I"m proud that Coleman has given his gift to the world.

Rumi would be proud.

5.0 out of 5 stars An anthology from the acclaimed translator whose poetry is simple and complex at the same time as it is poignant, December 12, 2008
This review is from: Winter Sky: New and Selected Poems, 1968-2008 (A Brown Thrasher Books Original) (Hardcover)
A man who has worked with and loved poetry all of his life, Coleman Barks has picked up more than a thing or two about writing the stuff. "Winter Sky: New and Selected Poems, 1968-2008" is an anthology from the acclaimed translator whose poetry is simple and complex at the same time as it is poignant. Poetry from a man who went out of the way to compose a letter protesting the Iraq War on its very eve, "Winter Sky" is much worth reading for poetry fans. "A Walk in the Botanical Gardens": We get it in our heads/ to inspect the undersides of each/waist-high Queen Anne's lace,/to find the black bug always at home/in his apartment of green scaffolding.//I don't understand why we want each other so much./Some of my wanting is curiosity./Each time, here's something living inside./I want you. I want you./What are we saying.//Eventually we eat the flower of our need,/bug and all,/and we're just out walking nowhere,/ with no schemes.
