3.0 out of 5 stars Winter Stars game time December 5, 2011
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Verified Purchase
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Here we go...another sports title...sounds like a tired theme yet this one stands out from the others as a decidedly more evolved effort. Meaning..... they left the bobbleheads behind & improved the graphics to represent a more realistic environment & characters. It's about time !!
I began in career mode.....& went from bobsled racing to biathlon & then figure skating to downhill skiing, there is also snowboarding, snowmobile racing & uhh what is it, ski gliding ? & i have not gotten to those yet as they are locked up at this point.
Ok i like this game....& would have gave it four stars BUT...games that lock up content rub me the wrong way.....as i paid the FULL amount up front so should have FULL access up front.....simple as that......so it lost a star for that.
Bobsledding was more fun than i anticipated.....biathlon was a good workout & the target shooting was cool....it sounds hokey at 1st but once you get the hang of it ....it is fun.
Figure skating ....lol....was not so much fun as funny, for me anyway.
And downhill skiing was pretty good...nothing great though.
I would wager they are saving the best for last.....& that the snow boarding, snowmobiling & ski-gliding will be fairly tight.
Another aspect of it all i liked was they kept screen clutter to a minimum, & in career mode there are no thrill killing cartoon coins to collect....i for one am very grateful for that.
Although there is a play mode for collecting coins i noticed.....but at least the whole game is not "coin cursed".
Yes, this sleeper is a keeper....not perfect at all....but pretty darn good. Although it is not easy....you will have to work to earn those gold medals....so there you go, Winter stars gets 3 solid stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Really poor title on XBox December 20, 2011

Having played many Kinect games now, this is among the worst. There's little correlation between your movements and the sports you're supposed to be controlling. The videos between the sports sections are too long, too many and really a waste of time. It would have been much better without the videos and if when skating, skiing, etc., your body actually controlled the character (versus a disconnected up and down arm motion). Too bad -- thought this might be fun. Not!

4.0 out of 5 stars Many fun sports on a single package March 14, 2012
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
The game feels fresh, it starts in "family mode" which makes the controls easy. Improving equipment or skills is possible and you can tell the difference in the next event.

You start the game by building a team as you win more events. After you win the first available cup more cups and events become available but not on a linear manner, you can choose your path.

Snowboarding and Parasking turn out to be more fun, the tracks have different options in terms of which path you choose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's Get Busy January 11, 2012

This game will get your blood pumping in a couple ways - competitively in multiplayer mode, as well as solo.

That you have to really move around to make this go, effectively, is the embodiment of the Kinect experience.

This game delivers that in spades.

Given proper effort, you will be tired after the events - Fun fun fun for kids and adults - the kids can play against and genuinely compete with the grownups - tons of fun for all.

Would definitely buy this game again.

1.0 out of 5 stars avoid this game December 10, 2013

This game is just awful. I have played kinect sports and adrenaline - both of which are awesome. I was hoping to add some winter sports to my repertoire. Unfortunately, if you try to use kinect it feels like nothing works - the controls are horrible. on the other hand if you play family mode to ease into it, it does everything to where you are just watching. Also unable to play all sports as apparently you have to win some cups before it opens up different sports to try. Needless to say I have been very disappointed. I have had this game for about a year and only used it 3 to 4 times and don't even think about using it because of the horrible controls and inability to play the sports I want.

2.0 out of 5 stars I can't believe this game was recommended April 9, 2012
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Verified Purchase
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
I've read that this game is 8/10 on some websites. The game is very flawed. The menu system is difficult to use, and there isn't any sort of free play mode. There are competitions that you must follow in order, and the loading times are long. The story seems okay, but the game just isn't as fun as I thought it would be. It's just a frustrating game which is always loading, and overall frustrating. The family mode does everything for you, and you just sort of watch the game play by itself with very little interaction. As the game progresses, you're not allowed to play family mode, and you have to play using all the motions. It's well worth 14.99 as an XBLA Kinect title, but I wouldn't pay more.

Pros: the story, characters, setting, the shooting, snowboarding with tricks, and the cool gorilla.

Cons: bobsledding, ice skating, skiing, family mode does mostly everything for you, long load times, hard to use menu system between rounds, and mostly that you need a lot of space for this title.
