great read-aloud for a snowy day,
By A Customer
This review is from: Winter Thunder (Paperback)
As a rural school teacher, I have read this short book to many classes on days when our schoolbus was late or stalled in the snow. The young Nebraska teacher and her brave students in this story survived a terrible blizzard by relying on each other; the memoir has become a read-aloud classic for me on the first winter storm of the year.

Pure Description,

This book is a survival tale with a very predictable plot. Of course, if you're a fan of blizzards and want to read a 60-page description of one, this is the book for you.

THUMBS WAY DOWN,
By Mike P (New Jersey) - See all my reviews

This book was really nothing special. It was so predictable the title of the book should've been,"Some Young Children Get Lost in a Storm and are Saved". This book had no excitement and i don't recomend this book to anybody.

Winter Thunder Review,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Winter Thunder (Paperback)
When reading "Winter Thunder," I found the book to be just okay. I think the author, Mari Sandoz, portrayed the children and teacher well. Mari Sandoz showed each of the character's strengths and weaknesses to coming up with ideas to save them from the fierce blizzard. After eight days with barely no food or shelter, rescue teams come for help. I think this book is exciting to a certain degree. I would recommend this book to someone who likes to be a "Survivor."

Childhood Memory,
This review is from: Winter Thunder (Paperback)
I read this book as a child, during a major winter storm in our small Western KY town. I remember vividly reading this story and not being able to put it down, eventually reading it to my little sister and cousin as our family huddled together in our basement, close to the wood stove. It is a remarkable tale and I have re-ordered the book to read to my grandchildren this winter. It is a remarkable story that gives the reader the idea that people can live through any challenge laid before them. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Winter Thunder,

This book Winter Thunder wasn't the best book in the world. But I also enjoyed it because it is a pretty good survival story. If you like books that are short, get to the point, and is a little venturous then this is the book for you.

Winter Thunder Review,
By Megan Armenio (Annandale, NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Winter Thunder (Paperback)
I enjoyed reading Winter Thunder Thunder by Mari Sandoz. This book was about a school bus of children that is on a field trip and their bus is stranded for miles from any rescue service after a fierce blizzard. The children get out of the bus and set up a tent for everyone to stay in. The teacher and the bus driver take care of the children. Their only food is a few lunches. They were protected from the cold with regular clothes for a typical winter day. Each character has to survive the freezing cold for eight days before any rescue aids come for help. This book delivers many brave characters and a problem that has to stretch the limits of human stamina. The best part of the book is that it is based on a true story. I recommend this book to a reader who likes adventure.
