This review is from: The Winter Wren (Hardcover)
At present, I cannot find my old dog-eared copy of Cole's "The Winter Wren", which makes me sad. I decided to poke around on the internet, in the hopes of glimpsing the artwork I love so much, but alas, there was none to be found. I became yet more unhappy upon seeing the lack of reviews for this little book. Someone gave me a copy for, if I recall correctly, my 8th birthday. I'm just about 21 now, and the story lingers with me to this day. Every now and then, when I hear the word 'spring' or the title 'Old Man Winter', I think of two crows fighting over a bacon rind and mutter to myself "spring's asleep at winter's farm and can't wake up". It's a folkloric tale with simple, touching art and a story that, like Simon, is also simple and touching.
