F. E. Heaton is one of my new favorite authors. I read Winter's Kiss in one sitting. I didn't want to put it down. There are so many paranormal romance authors out now, and so many that that get carried away in the "paranormal" part. Winter's Kiss drew me in with the characters. I liked Nika as soon as I "met" her, and she made me fall in love with Winter, also. I like my books with some action in them, to give some back story to the romance, throw in some excitement and tension, make me wonder how they will work their differences out. I found that with this book, I was kept on the edge of my seat, turning page after page, reading faster and faster to get to the end to see if their love would stand up to the many barriers they encountered. It was a wonderful book, and I will purchase from Ms Heaton again, and again.

A commander of the Validus bloodline Winter stands sentinel to Lord Hyperion. Winter is loyal to his family, but has become attracted to a young woman named Nika. He has watched her grow from a girl to a woman and she has invaded his mind and heart. One night he hears screams, and recognizes Nika's voice. He comes upon her being attacked by werewolves. He saves her life, but is not quick enough to save her from the bite that will make her his enemy. To love Nika is forbidden and would require him to choose between duty, family, and love.

The chemistry between Winter and Nika is lovely and very romantic. I admired Winter's strength which was a compliment to Nika's softness. She had noticed Winter as she was growing up and the attraction was not one sided. Although she only ever saw his eyes, she was able to read into them something that called to her heart. Lord Hyperion is also a fascinating character. He seems to have a bit of a mischievous nature. I look forward to seeing more of him in the future.

Winter's Kiss is a story of forbidden love and passions, but I also found it very romantic. In my opinion, Heaton just continues to improve on the series as she goes along. Once I had this novel in my hands I could not put it down. As I have said before, getting lost in one of Heaton's fantasy worlds is always a pleasure.

Finally a great book!!! I have been looking for a good book for a long time and they all seemed to fall flat! Just when I was about to give up, I gave this one a try and I finished it in one day! I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend this book!

I am a total fan of Paranormal romance and I have spent a good amount of my money on the volumes I've acquired in the hopes to have a good read during my weekends. I had never regretted the money I spent on them, even when some were not achieved as masterfully as others, until I got this book.
Winter's Kiss is lacking on every aspect. You do not get to identify with or root for any of the characters because honestly there is no way you can. I had seen the reviews this book had and I was expecting something very good so maybe there is where my problems started.
It is not that F E Heaton writes badly, her grammar was flawless-as far as I was able to stand the reading-. The problem is the book has no charm, nothing to make you catch your breath in fear or anticipation. After some pages I was telling myself that maybe this was one of those books where the erotic pieces where going to be so good that I was going to stop complaining after realizing how enticing the chemistry between the leading characters was but it was not so. The only erotic part I was able to read was absolutely boring and lame. I really had to put this book down when I was around half through.
To be fair, it has happened before that I get bored with a book's plot and put it down to read something else but with this one I was never able to actually take it again. It kind of infuriates me to see it in my archived items whenever I check my kindle.
This book is not worth it. It is not worth the price but most importantly it is NOT WORTH YOUR TIME.

This is the fifth book in the Vampire Realm Romance Series. I loved it!

Winter is a vampire and a member of the Validus bloodline, one of the oldest vampire families. He is the Chosen Son and second in command to Lord Hyperion. I liked this character a lot. He is the ultimate warrior - protective of his bloodline and loyal. When the human he secretly covets is attacked, he is torn between his loyalty to his family and his love for Nika.

Nika is a human, who has grown up in a village near to the Validus castle in Russia. I liked this character. She is rather naive about the world around her, but after an attack that changes her world, she finds herself facing a deadly decision.

This is another fantastic erotic paranormal romance in the series. The world building has gotten better, and the characters more complex and sexy. The story is an exciting roller coaster ride from start to finish. Having already been introduced to a vampire/werewolf couple in the Prophecy Trilogy in the form of Mia and Demitri, it was intriguing to follow Winter and Nika's journey. The story is told from both Winter's and Nika's point of view.
I felt for Winter as he dealt with the devastating consequences of the werewolf attack on Nika. Not only is a relationship between a vampire and werewolf frowned on, it is against the Law and is punishable by death. The raw passion that Winter and Nika feel for each other comes across as scorching! The pages just about combust! There are several twists and turns, and I have come to the conclusion that Lord Hyperion is either a rebel, or he has a soft spot for couples in love. Nevertheless, I am beginning to like the Validus leader a lot! It would be interesting to read his story eventually.
