Ensiferum is among the very best metal acts ever conceived: a perfect blend of technical proficiency, melodic sense, vocal tone and instrumentation, and sheer poetic ENERGY. I was catatonic when I heard Jari Maenpaa left, and although Ensiferum continues to flourish without him at the helm, things aren't quite the same. I ran, not walked, to grab Jari's new effort, and from the very first note it was clear that his supernova talent is still going strong. This is a densely-produced, virtuoso tour de force made more impressive for the fact that it was basically just Jari and a drummer who authored it. Is it even possible for an album to be this cerebral, this lyrical, AND this gripping? Let's put it this way: I have even more anticipation for Jari's follow-on album ("Time") than I had for Kalmah's jaw-dropping "For the Revolution". If love metal, and have any sense of musicality at all, you must give this album a try.
