Book Description

January 1, 2003
This is an authoritative list of the 700 passengers who are believed to have come to New England with John Winthrop in 1630. Based on research undertaken in England and America, it provides as much data as could be verified on each passenger--name, place of departure, places of residence in England and America, occupation, church affiliation, dates of birth, marriage, and death, and relationships to other passengers. It also has indexes of names, places, and subjects as well as appendices listing the passengers on the Mary and John and the Lyon, which sailed contemporaneously with the Winthrop Fleet.

This review is from: The Winthrop Fleet of 1630: An Account of the Vessels, the Voyage, the Passengers and Their English Homes from Original Authorities (Paperback)
In addition to the value as a record of the original pioneers of the 'New World", this book provides a surprising insight into the difficulties encountered by those hearty souls who left the comforts of England to persue the freedom that marks the bedrock of our society.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, Authoritative, and I Even Found One of My Ancestors Mentioned In It!, February 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I enjoyed this book, particularly when I found one of my ancestors mentioned in it. He was neither a hero nor one of the bad guys. He was some young kid who was helping move the boat from one place to another, in preparation for a storm if I remember correctly, and the comment about him was something like, "I don't know that man. I think he works for (some name)" :)

Oh well, one takes genealogy the way it is. Maybe as he aged, he would have been more memorable.

At any rate, you may enjoy this book if you had ancestors on the Winthrop Fleet of 1630 or if you just like that part of the history of America.
