I purchased this item because of all the positive reviews. Unfortunately, the only negative reviews I read were because it was squatter than most other stock pots or was damaged in shipping. But that's not the reason I am giving it only 2 stars. This product is advertised as heavy duty and commercial grade. The stainless steel itself is pretty heavy duty and I liked that. I also liked the fact that it was more squat than the average pot because it makes fitting it sideways in my sink easy. Now here's where the heavy duty and commercial grade get lost. First, all the handles (side and lid) are spot welded on and not riveted on for permanence like the average commercial grade cookware. Spot welding is the cheapest and least reliable type of welding. Even in the instructions provided, you are told to check if the handles feel loose before using - not that there is much you can do except put it aside until you can find someone to weld the handles back on properly. The second part is the bottom encapsulation where alluminum is sandwiched between the bottom of the pan and the bottom of the inside of the pan. It is a piece that is added onto the pot and welded/affixed in some manner onto the bottom of the pot and not solid/smooth/flush and made when the rest of the pot was made along with the pot - it's an added piece. Again, this is something the included instructions tell you about because since it is an added piece you have to worry about it warping, becoming uneven and becoming askew. Tbis pot IS NOT cheaply priced and for the price, all of the things i mentioned (riveted on handles and the pot all made in one piece) I expected from a commercial grade pot. But the pot is made in China and I looked everywhere online and could not find any information on where this product was produced. Had I known that before ordering, then I wouldn't have ordered it anyhow. I wish along with product information, the country the product was made in was also included. In the photo, it looks like a really nice and well made pot, I wondered why they did not show photos of the inside of the pot and the handle construction, but I went off of the overwhelming positive reviews. This time, unfortunately, the reviews had it wrong.

If you're thinking about stepping up to all-grain brewing or doing 10 gallon batches, this is the pot for you. Very heavy duty. One thing to keep in mind is that this pot might be a bit wider than you're used to, so you may find that your immersion wort chiller doesn't submerge as far in a typical 5 gallon batch as you're used to. This might reduce some of your cooling efficiency, but it only took me about 5 more minutes to get down to my pitching temp.

I got the 32 quart stock pot (8 gallons) and it is truely a commercial grade item. I don't know what gauge metal it is, but it's definitely the heaviest pot I've ever encountered. The lid is solid and fits nice and flat. There is 6 point welding on the two handles. It has an encapsulated sandwich bottom consisting of 5mm thick aluminum core for even heat distribution. Another way of putting this is the aluminum is encased in two sheets of stainless steel. Good for us who don't want aluminum in our food or beer. I am so glad I held off purchasing other pots I encountered. This is a major thumbs up product!

A great heavy duty kettle for brewing beer! I've had other kettles that were very thin. This kettle has a clad bottom that allows for even heating.

This 16-quart stainless steel pot is just what I was looking for and at a price I wanted to pay. When it arrived I was very pleased with its high quality and good weight. The lid fits snugly "within" the pot so there are no drips and run-overs during cooking, effectively sealing in the flavors and nutrients of the food being cooked. I make bone broth on a regular basis, and this pot is ideal for a couple of chickens and/or beef bones, plus all this vegetables. I really appreciate that the cooking is quiet, with no slop-over messes. I also use this pot to make yogurt. After filling 5 1-quart jars with whole milk, I place them inside the pot filled with some water. With the lid firmly in place, the temperature of the milk quickly reaches 185 degrees. This is ten times faster than any other pot I've used. In addition, and this is the part I absolutely love, there is no clean up of burned-on milk, which I always have using any other pot. I highly recommend this particular stock pot to anyone needing it.

I've purchased both the 60 (first) and 20 quart pots from Amazon and am quite happy with them. I've uploaded pictures of the handles and welds as at the time I ordered this information was not available. You can see that the handles are not bonded to the pot directly but are fastened with a plate that with is then welded to the pot. The 60 quart plate also features rivets. In either case the handles have no play and feel very secure.

The 60 quart pot ships in it's own retail box. While my box arrived in good condition it is no surprise others complain about shipping damage as the packaging is quite modest.

i bought this some time ago and finally got around to brewing a double batch of beer. this is a great pot. the heavy bottom keeps stuff from burning when the propane is cranked up. it's solid and durable. a great deal. i can easily brew a 10 gallon batch without worry of overflow.

May 2011 update, i continue to use this for double batches often. i can go 12 gallons at the beginning of the boil. love this pot.

Sept 2013
i sold this pot a year ago because i wanted a pot system ( a pot with a metal strainer). i love the new system, but this pot was a better pot. the big deal is the heat shied/spreader bottom. i never burn anything in this pot and i have in the new pot. i would consider going back to this pot.

Pot received damaged via 2-day Prime shipping (UPS 2-day air).

Many people like these pots but the one we received seemed to have been very hastily made and had an obvious manufacturing defect. It looked like someone had tested this particular pot for dent resistance by striking it forcefully with a small, hard object like a scratch awl or screwdriver. The impact left a small (2 mm non-penetrating) cavity in the outside of the pot, near the bottom, and caused a dent that was obvious on the inside of the pot. This did not appear to be shipping damage.

Internal and external finish was coarse. The handle for the lid was spot-welded, not riveted. Pot handles were both riveted and welded. Weight of the steel was acceptable but not exceptional. Stamping quality was mediocre with visible non-uniformity of sides and bottom, with mild rippling. The bottom of the pot was its best feature, very heavy metal. The pot was manufactured in China, and exemplified the familiar rough-and-ready style. Amazon's picture looks better than the pot we received.

The pot arrived in its own printed box, inside (or partly inside) another lightweight carton. The outer carton was wide open upon receipt, with tape flapping in the breeze. One 5-foot strip of crumpled brown paper had been inserted between inner and outer cartons, but both cartons had holes punched in them.

We're trying again, thanks to Amazon's excellent return policy. Will update this review when we receive the replacement. There seems to be no real alternative at this price point. Good luck.

I can finally make Barefoot Contessa's chicken stock. This pot is sturdy, simple and reasonably priced considering the price ranges for a 20 quartstock pot. And, my daughter already bumpted it to the floor and it didn't suffer any dents. It's perfect!!
