Good pot, but has a flaw,

I got this 4.5 pot as a replacement for a "non-stick" pot that had it's coating wearing off (and I've read some bad things about these non-stick coatings), so my requirements for a new pot were that it had to be stainless steel, had to have a single handed capable handle (as many pots this size have the two-handed short handles) and it had to be inexpensive. This pot fit the bill. Upon arrival I hand washed it and noticed that the welds used to fasten the long handle to the pot could be felt as very tiny pimples on the inside of the pot. I am concerned that the welding may eventually fail or rust, but have no proof as of yet. So that is why this review only gives it 3 stars. The pot came with a small sheet (5" x 5") of paper, "Care and cleaning", and "Good to know" notes. Some of the things they advise you that you should know: It's dishwasher safe. Don't add salt to your food until the water's boiling, otherwise you might get salt stains. Don't clean it with steel wool, cause it will scratch it. The "slightly concave" base gets flatter when heated, so don't clean it until it cools, otherwise it might warp. And so(obviously)don't let the food boil dry either. Don't use the pot for food storage, or your food might end up tasting metallic. (It's true, stainless steel continuously oxidizes.) And lastly, check the handle and knob for looseness before use. (hmm..)The lid is OK too. Just wish they would make lids with a nob that doesn't get hot, instead of the metal handles they seem to always use now. But I suppose that would drive up the cost. Note addendum 06/11/2011 almost 1 year later, pot holding up very well, upping rating to 4 stars. My wife has long forgotten the cleaning and caring notes, so we do have some salt stains. Eh. Other than that, it's in great shape.

Nice, tall sauce pan with more volume than most other sauce pans. The thick bottom holds the heat extremely well, which is one of the major reasons I bought it. Super pricey pots and pans usually have 5-8 (or so?) layers of metal on the bottom which really helps to buffer from the stove, and helps cooks make less mistakes. The thick bottom on this one, though it is only 2 types of metal (I think) act in a similar way. The lid is a little cheesy, small and thin, but it fits and does its job.

The 6 quart pot is great. Very solid and, at that size, pretty big. In my experience, heating seems even on the cooking surface, and the lid is just as firmly built and fits well. My biggest annoyance in the kitchen is thin, uneven pans and this is NOT one of them. Great solid pan for cooking any number of things.

This 'sauce' pan works great for stovetop popcorn! I specifically searched for a pot for this purpose and am very happy with how this pot performs. Heats great, pops the corn in short order, and the lid stays on (so no oil splatters). If you get this pot, I think you'll like it too.

I bought myself a full set of these Winware pans for an early Christmas present - when I saw these, I knew they'd make a great replacement for my old stuff with disappearing non-stick surfaces (sadly, that non-stick stuff was slowly but surely eaten along with our food over the space of 20+ years). And I've worked in enough commercial kitchens to know that kitchen tools with NSF stamps on them are what I want for my home kitchen - that NSF designation means it has passed a rigorous quality review as a product that will meet the needs of most professional kitchens - and along with Amazon's 4 for 3 deal, the price was right, so I got a whole set.I'm very happy with them. They may not be the heaviest stuff out there, but with the 'sandwiched' construction of the bottoms -where heavy really counts- I think their construction is ample for the home kitchen. I'd rather they had riveted handles instead of the welded ones, but with the NSF seal, I have faith that their life expectancy is a long and happy one. I gave these pans 4 stars for their basic quality, and I added the 5th star due to Amazon's good pricing and their 4 for 3 deal - Nice!

Nice stainless steel pot. Seems well made enough. No particular complaints. I like it. Good for cooking just about anything at 6 quarts.

An excellent pan for the money - nice weight, even heat distribution, cleans up nicely. Will buy other sizes as I need them.

As another review noted, this pan does popcorn nicely.Unexpectedly, the bottom is fully clad in stainless steel, where exposed aluminum could be expected, as on old Farberware, which leave marks on stove burners.

I was hesitant but glad I tried these out. It's not what I would pay commercial prices for, but at the price, it delivers solid. I like how quick the bottom can be cooled after having boiling water in it. That was the primary purpose, to be the salted water boiling pot for pasta or anything else that may be a little harsh on my commercial Calphon pots which show some finish wear from the last nearly 20 years. If you don't dump salt in such that it rests on the bottom while it heats, there's not problem with salt "stains". If I had to pick a fault, it would be the handle which on the larger sizes, like my 6 qt. could use the help of a helper handle when full and heavy. The handle is round so depending on what you have in it or how your moving it, it may try to spin in your hand. But I can't imagine anyone trying to one hand a large pit like this anyway. The shape of the pot rim makes it really easy to assist with the other hand. I don't think you can beat the price for this quality. I'm looking to add another piece or 2 for specific needs.

This pot is great. It has a thick bottom and tight fitting lid. It's large enough even for whole spaghetti if you give it a minute to soften. I got it for making candies but haven't done that yet. I've used it for potatoes, rice and paste, it's just about perfect for all 3. The lid does get hot and the handle gets warm (but not quickly). The handle has 2 or 3 spot wields that are completely flush on the inside. This could be an issue but I'd think not for years. I plan on getting more of this brand. Possibly even converting all my pots and pans to Winware.
