5.0 out of 5 stars On the Edge of Your Seat Thriller!, January 11, 2004
If you are a Robson Greene or a mystery fan looking for an intelligent story, then this is dvd worth owning. It will keep you on the edge of your seat, and make you cringe as you examine the clues and evidence. The criminal pyschologist and detective try to profile and apprehend a serial killer who seems to prey on gay men with inexplicable ease. To make matters worse, a supervisory detective tries to thwart Tony Hill (psychologist) and take matters into his own hands while another detective leaks information to the news media in exchange for sexual favors....will they catch the killer? Will Tony Hill survive the confrontation or will he become the next unfortunate victim!

Highly recommend this dvd!

5.0 out of 5 stars Creepy, Fascinating Crime Drama, February 4, 2005

Robson Green creates yet another fascinating, quirky crime solver, this time as Dr. Tony Hill, a criminal psychologist with a penchant for seeing his criminals as all too human, in a system that wants to brand them all monsters. His views and work methods frustrate, infuriate and fascinate his fellow case workers. All three "Wire in the Blood" episodes make for powerful, hair raising crime drama and the first installment "The Mermaids Singing" may well be its creepiest. Fun stuff for crime buffs!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best British thrillers ever made!, July 18, 2008
By
La Bea (Stockholm, Sweden) - See all my reviews
Someone is killing off young men in fictive city of Bradfield, UK. The killer uses medieval torture instruments in the most sadistic way, and detective inspector Carol Jordan (Hermione Norris) seeks help from clinical psychologist Tony Hill (Robson Green).

Tony Hill is an intelligent, sensitive and excentric man who has a rare ability to penetrate the criminal mind and understand it. He's fascinated by those he examines, but never fails to empathize with their victims. Although some in the police force are opposed to his involvment he manages to profile the killer. But what he doesn't know is that he, himself, is the next target.

The Mermaids Singing (based on Val Mcdermid's novel) is one of the best thrillers you could possibly watch - compelling and intense like few others. Not for the squeamish though; the murders are truly gruesome and the ending contains a graphic torture scene that makes you sit on the edge of the sofa!

The acting is absolutely brilliant, and best performance is signed Robson Green. He is nothing less than superb as dr Tony Hill; warm and funny and yet sensitive and vulnerable. His monologues are among the best parts of the film; enchanting and stunning! This is not only a must-see but actually a must-own movie!
