Biography

Basil Poledouris was an American film composer whose musical breadth enabled him to write music for films as diverse as Starship Troopers with its 96 piece orchestral setting, to the quiet solo piano work for It's My Party. The score which received the most critical acclaim was his work for Conan The Barbarian.

He started studying the piano when he was seven years old and had intended to become a… Read more in Amazon's Basil Poledouris Store

Richie Havens blows me away with this song! His voice and the emotion of the melody and lyric are a superb combination! "STILL LOOKING FOR A WAY TO SAY GOODBYE" is an awesome song - it tears at my heart everytime hear it. I highly recommend this cd to any serious music buyer. Thanks Amazon.com!

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't judge the soundtrack by it's movie., December 20, 2007

This review is from: Wired (1989 Film) (Audio CD)
Where this joke of a biopic fell painfully, shamefully short, its soundtrack stands on its own with top-shelf Blues Brothers tunes, as good as (if not better) than those done by popular tribute acts. At the very least, Belushi fans will want this for the inclusion of "2000-Pound Bee" by The Ventures, and they'll know why. "Love Kills" by Joe Strummer is a suprisingly enjoyable tune, as well as the Chiklis-doing-Belushi-doing-Cocker version of "You Are So Beautiful". The two songs done as substitue Blues Brothers tunes, "You Don't Know Like I Know" and "634-5789" (never performed by Belushi, but appearing in 'Blues Brothers 2000' years later) are enjoyable on their own. Who knew that Michael Chiklis was such a good vocalist?

As questionable as the much-frowned upon John Belushi biopic was, the companion soundtrack disc to "Wired" is quite a musical find on its own. As echoed by just about everyone who saw the film and could think of nothing else to applaud, it turns out that later-star of TV's "The Shield" Michael Chiklis could deliver quite an enjoyable vocal performance; he manages to sing the classic 'I'm a King Bee' Belushi skit with energy, backed in other songs by equally able co-star Gary Groomes (as Dan Aykroyd) with 'Soul Man,' without using mere flat imitation. Chiklis also holds his own in exciting renditions of '634-5789' and 'You Don't Know Like I Know,' and finally in a wonderful Chiklis-as-Belushi-as-Cocker performance of 'You Are So Beautiful.'
Elsewhere, former Clash frontman Joe Strummer's 'Love Kills,' while being distinctly 80s, somehow fits, but the biggest gem is Richie Havens' 'Still Looking For a Way To Say Goodbye' - this ballad is simple, stirring, and defines "tear-jerker." Two of film composer Basil Poledouris' movements, 'The Choice' and the lovely 'Eulogy' are just gorgeous.
