Not as pictured,

This review is from: Wired Home KWGJ9 Keystone Wall Plate Double Gang 12-Port Wht (Electronics)
This does not look like the pictured item.
In the picture from Amazon, this looks like a single piece of plastic with 12 evenly spaced keystone holes. In fact, what you get a three piece assembly. It's really two 6-port keystones with a common cover plate. This makes them not evenly spaced and bulky. Wish I could add a picture here...

Does not work with Leviton Keystone Jacks,

Well-built, but the faceplate will not accept Leviton banana plug keystone jacks. Since Leviton is one of the main suppliers of jacks, this product isn't that useful.

Worked flawlessly... but...,

I installed two of these wall plates this weekend and it worked extremely well. In 2x4 constructed walls with "new construction" low voltage 2-gang boxes from Lowe's and Home Depot, there were no issues other than a tight fit with all of the cables in the wall.
I was pleasantly surprised with the heavy duty construction of this faceplate. My only issue and the reason why it received 4 stars instead of 5... both wall plates only shipped with 2 screws each instead of 4 screws! At the moment I have the the 2 screws in the diagonally opposing corners.

This is a nice 12 port face plate if you are looking to have adjacent keystone data jacks. Other ports group the 12 ports in 2 6port configurations which creates tight clearances between adjacent jacks. This is especially troublesome when trying to put data jacks next to each other.
So, in my opinion, it doesn't look as nice as the 2 6port face plate but they work.. and the aesthetics aren't that different.

The problem here is that the outer keystone jacks are just a little too far out. If you put jacks in them, the whole thing becomes too wide to fit in a normal 2-gang wall box/mud ring. I loaded it up with a whole bunch of ICC Dual Speaker Module - White and forced the issue... it mostly worked out, but the plate is still a few mm off the wall.
There are probably some keystone modules which can't be placed closer together, but engineering this thing to have a closer spacing may have been a better solution. Comes with screws and otherwise looks good. I'm attaching my photos above...

Lots of spots for connections,

This review is from: Wired Home KWGJ9 Keystone Wall Plate Double Gang 12-Port Wht (Electronics)
This is a strong, well made item and has plenty of space for connections. There are a couple of problems I encountered which aren't necessarily this item's "fault" but that purchasers need to know. First, there are at least some "old work" type boxes that this won't work well with due to the edges of the outside ports striking the inside edge of the box. Specifically, the low voltage type box sold at Home Depot cause the cover to stick out about a quarter inch from the wall. I haven't tried it with a standard new work box, but I suspect they will work fine with those since there is more room inside.
The second problem is that at least some Leviton Quickport items (again sold at Home Depot) won't fit without some slight modification. It only took a slight bit of filing of the jack, so not a deal breaker. I don't know which of the items, the jack or the cover, is slightly off from whatever standard exists for keystone type connections. Other brand jacks snapped right in without problem. Overall, if you need this many connections in one spot and can work around the specific problems mentioned, then this is a good item for the price. |
