OK, for any international readers of this review I'd like to point out that this is a spoof of a very popular and long running weekly sports round up show. It was called The Wide World of Sports and had high profile ex players of various sporting codes present a sort of sports variety show. Chunks of the Australian male population would wedge themselves into their chair on a Saturday afternoon and watch it.

Anyway, Australian comedian Billy Birmingham lampoons this show with brilliant observations of the shows regular personalities and their quirks and voices. He is also able to make comic fun of the Australian love of sports in general and with a whole wide world of sports out there to choose from, he can lampoon some of them too.

The first disc, Wired World of Sports, is an Australian classic. Guys at school would basically have this entire disc memorised and laugh over and over again at the original and also their friends abilities to both recite and mimic the same voices Billy Birmingham did. If you are Australian and old enough to remember the show and the sporting personalities on it this will bring a tear to your eye. As long as you have a constitution strong enough to stomach the frequent blue language.

The second disc is the somewhat lesser light of Wired World of Sports 2 where Birmingham seems to have already used up his best material and like many sequels, trading off the brilliance of the debut. There is still a chunk of humour to be found here and the addition of some bonus tracks certainly mean that there is some value for money here.

Having said that, as pretty much the only market for this is in Australia and since you'll probably be able to get it cheaper down at your local supermarket or record store, you won't need to buy it from this site anyway which is lucky as at the time of me writing this review the price seems a bit inflated.

As I said, if you are of a certain vintage and from Australia you'll laugh until you ache. Otherwise while there is plenty of general humour on the albums, you'll probably be so lost that you won't be getting your moneys worth.

This is a favorite of mine.It takes a few spins to get used to,because first time you play it you go....hmmm yeah,not that funny.But he has alot of one liners that you end up walking around saying yourself.The Maxaphone is a good example of dry humor that gets funnier everytime you listen to it.Max goes on a rampage trying to get his job back on the commentary team on this.Billy Birmingham is in my opinion always at his best taking off Richie Benaud,but this is an exception to the rule,damn hillarious this one.
