General guide,

This review is from: Wirehaired Pointing Griffon (Comprehensive Owner's Guide) (Hardcover)
Has lots of nice WPG pictures and breed specific information, although much of the info can be found on the web. There is a considerable amount of general dog info for someone new to dog ownership and training. It's what you can expect from this sort of guide.

This is a great book that offers many "pointers" and insight on the breed. There is alot of information that you can use for any breed. The pictures are wonderful.

I was so pleased with the book, it was just what I thought it would be. I learned what I needed to learn. The book was in "mint" condition! I would give the seller a great review.

We had just bought a Wirehaired Pointer Griffon, and my wife and I found this book very helpful in learning about the breed as well as a lot of hints on training. We have raised boxers, and Pulies in the past so this book was an excellent guide for us.

In about 4-6 weeks, we will be bringing home our first ever WPG puppy. This book is invaluable to me, as my last dog was a very easy Standard Schnauzer mix. I'm looking forward to working with a puppy again, and the chapter on pups has extensive pictures, collar recommendations, good info all around, to help me be successful. I wish I'd gotten this book before I began working with a breeder, but I know we got a very good one (two of her dogs just one best in breed and best opposite in our city's recent show, and a dog from her first litter is a top WPG both hunting and show.) That said, I would have asked her about dysplasia and other things before starting payments on our pup! This book is full of wisdom and info.
I don't intend to show our puppy, we will neuter him, and we plan to mostly hike, fish, camp, and possibly hunt with him, but for the most part we plan to have an all-around-family dog. This book gives me the lowdown on how to achieve all of this, and to ensure our pup has a long happy life filled with love. The right kind of breed-specific information is very key to ensuring all of this, especially if you've never worked with a specific breed bred for a specific reason. I'm definitely a dog person, and I'm ready, and my husband is already chomping at the bit to get him out on the boat for some company on delta fishing expeditions! This poor dog is going to be worn out by all the walks, agility courses, and fishing he's going to be doing.... Can't wait!! ------------------------- Update: book IS very well written and thoughtful. Our WPG is now 15 months old, a big strapping boy at 25 inches and 75 lbs, and is still a bouncing crazy dude. We love him, and we still refer to this book when we have questions about the breed's behaviors or health or history. It's great to own an amazing gun dog, and to have a good guide. |
