5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent remote control for appliances
I bought this product so that I would be able to turn off my sound amplifier from the opposite side of my 2-story house. I play music using a Sonos system controlled wirelessly by an iPod Touch. The package I ordered from Amazon looks like the illustration except that the main unit has DSI shown on the face. I have had several frustrations with this item. The package I ordered from Amazon looks like the illustration except that the main unit has DSI shown on the face. I have had several frustrations with this item. It was necessary to click the remote unit several times before the receiver would turn on the light. Thinking that was caused by the surge suppresser it was plugged into, I plugged it directly into the wall AC-DC. Same behavior. Thinking it was delivered with a weak battery, I replaced that too. No improvement.

The remote and the sensor are in the same room but divided by a wall. The signal does not require flowing thru a wall or door. I have another unit that I bought several years ago which, by the way is much smaller, and that works beautifully with just one press of the remote.

No more DSI products for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent remote control for appliances, June 16, 2009

I bought this product so that I would be able to turn off my sound amplifier from the opposite side of my 2-story house. I play music using a Sonos system controlled wirelessly by an iPod Touch. At the end of the day, when I'm upstairs and it's time to retire, I can turn the Sonos system off wirelessly, but the amplifier that the Sonos is connected to will stay on all night, drawing a lot of electricity. I now keep the remote control for this gizmo at my bedside. When I want to turn off the amplifier, I simply push the button on the remote. It works instantly and perfectly every time through all the walls and floors that separate my second-story bedroom from the amplifier on the first floor.

I wish I could say that I can also turn the amplifier back on using this gizmo, but unfortunately my Harmon Karmon amplifier doesn't work that way. Pushing the button on the remote control for this controller just puts the amplifier back into standby mode, and I then need to either use the Harmon Karmon remote or press a button on the amplifier to turn the amplifier back on. Also, in order to avoid having to carry the remote for this controller back downstairs again the next morning, I had to plug the mother unit for this device into a plug where it's easily accessible (not hidden behind the entertainment cabinet), so that I can press a button on the mother unit itself to turn the power back on the next day.

The base unit is in a cabinet over the stove. I went outside onto the patio at the other end of the house clicked it and the lights came on.

I wanted this to reboot (turn off, then turn back on) my cable modem from the first floor. The modem is in the basement. It won't do it. It does it if I go down into the basement and come within a few feet of the switch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product... but, February 3, 2011

I like this product a lot. I bought 3, from 3 different sellers. Two of the three worked. Both were from Amazon.com. The one that did not work has "made in china" sticker which is funny because all of them are made in China anyway (read the name of the factory!).

The one that did not work apppropriately did so only when I pointed the remote control at the outlet. The other two that worked as long as I was close enough to the sensor. I could be around the corner, down the stairs. Walls did not prevent it from working. I would highly recommend this product because it's really not that expensive and so useful for people like me with floor lamps.

Bought this to remotely ignite a gas fire pit but after 3 "starts" it quit working. Now I can figure out how to return/exchange it! It came with a new, wrapped battery, but replaced the battery and still did not work.

I'm not doing anything crazy with these like some others.

I put them on lamps in my house and they work great.

This wireless remote was purchased from Amazon.com to control a small fan, but it stopped working within a week and wasn't even used every day. Although most items purchased from Amazon.com is good, but I do not recommend this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Remote Light Switch, February 6, 2011
This review is from: Wireless Appliance Remote Control Lamp Light Switch (Electronics)
The device works very well. The only problem was the included battery, which was completely dead. So, I had to purchase a new battery before it would work. After that, it functions very smoothly. The instructions are a little too brief, so the settings on the wall unit regarding the buttons was a trial and error process to get the right combination of settings on the two buttons. But, once that was sorted out, it works great. The remote control switch is well made compared to a previous product I once used, and its button switch has a good, solid action to it.
