Decent item, but the description says the charger works and has been tested with the iPhone 3G.
What it doesn't say is that it that you will get a message stating that it will only work in AIRPLANE MODE. Click "NO" to NOT go into AIRPLANE mode and it wil work fine anyway. Also, you can skip connecting the charging piece and only connect the sound/headphone output to the FM transmitter -- it works fine as well.

Does not fit in my car,

I have three complaints regarding this device:
(1) The part of the device that plugs into the car's cigarette lighters (i.e. outlets) is a rigid plug extending from the back of the device. This means that if your cigarette lighters are tucked into corners, gloveboxes, etc., the device cannot be plugged into your car. You need a wide, unobstructed approach coming into your outlet. Check out the pictures I added to the product description - you'll see what I mean. (2) I live in an urban area where MANY radio stations broadcast FM signals. There is only one spot on the dial that is essentially unused, and therefore available to the device. The sound quality in this one open spot is not that great - some static carries through. Perhaps we will get better transmission on our drives into rural areas of the country. (3) While the device claims to be compatible with iPhone 3G, it is not an Apple supported device. Consequences? (a) Your iPhone gets forced into Airplane Mode when you connect to the device. (b) You get warnings about it being an unsupported device, and (c) The battery charging icon does not indicate that charging is actually occurring. (No giant green battery on the front screen.) All this gives me the heebie-jeebies, but perhaps that's just what Apple wants me to feel. We paid a lot for our iPhones 3G, and using unsupported gear makes me nervous. A redesign of the plug on the back would solve the fit problem, but not the issue of it being an unsupported product. Be sure to check the vendor's return policy before choosing this for your car. You may need to send the device back!

i like this product and works great with my 3G iPhone and the sound is excellent, but it sticks out of my cigarette lighter making it difficult to shift the transmission in my Ford Explorer Sporttrac. If you want to buy this you might want to make sure the cigarette lighter is not too close to the transmission. The remote control that comes in the package is worthless.

Blew Up In My Car---$100 Repair Costs,
By
This review is from: 10 in 1 Wireless Automobile FM Transmitter + Car Charger + Holder/Dock + Remote (Electronics)
Ah, why doesn't Amazon offer a 0 star option? Because that's what I would give this product.
The price. That may be the only redeeming quality of this product. But, that's even not valid! Let's compare: Price of product: (What, like, $12? I can't see it from this screen.) Price of a normal iPod/phone adapter that actually would work: $80. Price I paid to have repairs done to my car's cigarette lighter/power adapter when the product blew up inside of it: $100 So, I could have gotten a really nice, maybe Belkin iPod transmitter for about $80...instead, I paid $112 or so for shoddy sound quality that worked for under two weeks, and car repairs afterwords. But oh, the story goes back even further...let me clarify: Around January 2010 I was looking for an iPod transmitter for my car. Didn't want to spend to much, being a broke college student, so I went with the cheap one. Big mistake. After about 1 1/2 week of use, I lightly went to tug it out of the lighter unit so I could plug in my GPS. Big mistake. It blew parts everywhere in my car, not very fun to vacuum up. So, I contacted CrazyonDigital, and they did send me a new unit promptly for free. I do give them credit for that. So, the next unit came, and I set it up in my car. Surprise, surprise, after about another 2 weeks of use, I heard a popping sound when my car started, with mini sparks coming out of the lighter adapter. So, freaking out, I yanked the iPod transmitter out of there. Little plastic and metal pieces were stuck inside the cigarette lighter, and I could not get them out. I had to go to a car repair shop and have someone suck the pieces out for $100, as I couldn't do it myself and simple car vacuum didn't get all the pieces out. I had to do this, because I couldn't plug anything into the lighter unit! (GPS, phone charger, etc.) Once again I contacted CrazyOnDigital, telling them that yet again another unit had blown up in my car, and I would please like a refund. I didn't want another unit, because I didn't want to have to pay $100 to get my car fixed! They said that since I had ordered it so long ago, they could do nothing. Cool, $125 that I'll never get back. No biggie, or anything... Just consider before you buy the crap that can go wrong with this product. Take your money, and buy something nice. Even for this price, even if it DOESN'T blow up in your car, the sound quality still sucks. Just a thought.

Warning: No GPS signal !!!,
This review is from: 10 in 1 Wireless Automobile FM Transmitter + Car Charger + Holder/Dock + Remote (Electronics)
Two downsides i found (using it with iPhone 3G) to this item which are not published on the product page is that:
1. Calls sound isn't passed via RF as iPod songs, so if you receive a call in the car you will have to hear it on the iPgone's speaker or using a bluetooth device. 2. If you connect the iPhone to the power cable the GPS signal stops since it is not compatible which to me is a major downside of the device...

Holders don't have enough friction or spring tention to actually hold the phone in place. In addition, it would have been nice for it to work twice. The FM transmitter screen ceased to display the frequency and would no longer transmit.
I knew that for the price it wasn't going to be top quality, but not working more than 30 min is unacceptable.

Cheaply made product,

I purchased one of these in January for use with my 3G Iphone in my Mitsubishi Eclipse. The very first time I plugged it in, it immediately blew two fuses in my car shorting out the radio and clock and frying the product. I routinely use my car jack for a variety of other electronic products (Iphone charger, bluetooth headset charger, laptop charger) without any issues.
The seller Crazyondigital exchanged it for a new one. First and foremost, it only functioned if the phone is in airplane mode. Second, the plastic plug that fits into the lighter is cheaply made and started seperating from the weight of the goose neck holder almost immediately. Third, because of the seperation of the plastic, the device falls over or tilts constantly. At that point I promptly returned it, and the seller was good enough to give a full refund. Sound quality was medicore at best. The radio had to be turned almost to max to get decent sound out, and if you turned off the iphone, the static was then nearly overwhelming. I also got the typical electronic buzz that is common with these types of devices, but thankfully the buzz wasn't too loud. I would not recommend this product for numerous significant design flaws. As mentioned above, the seller handled the situation with professionalism.

You get what you pay for,
This review is from: 10 in 1 Wireless Automobile FM Transmitter + Car Charger + Holder/Dock + Remote (Electronics)
I have used the car charger for about one month. The charger works well. The FM transmitter for the car stereo work ok, but be prepared to change to a different channel when you encounter interference.
I won't trust the charger to hold my Iphone. The rubber pads designed to hold the phone would not lock in place. The weight of my phone is not sufficient to hold it in place either. I am currently debating the use of rubber bands, super glue to hold the pads in place or simply purchasing a different product. By the way...I love remote controls. This one is worthless.

I was so excited while waiting for this fm transmitter's arrival. I was so eager to listen my iphone songs in my car radio only to be disappointed by the constant static of this fm transmitter with the songs. This is the cheapest of the bunch but I dont think $20 is too less for an fm transmitter... for sanity's sake it is just an fm transmitter... I am not expecting a bose quality sound system but static....Not very happy.. I should have gone for an expensive one in the first place.. now I ended up paying for the inbound and outbound (return) shipping for this product...

Not worth the money,

I wasn't expecting much when I bought this and I got even less than that. The build quality is quite terrible, some of the insulation had split and you could see the wires underneath. The FM Transmitter is quite weak, when it is on, my radio doesn't even pick it up when it scans. The audio is muffled and has static no matter what channel I use. I live in Idaho so it's not like there are a lot of stations being used anyways.
It does put the iphone exactly where I want it with its rigid arm instead of those gooseneck ones. That is just because my cigerate lighter jack just happens to be in the right spot. I had never used an FM Transmitter before but I thought it would be better than this. I will probably still use this but I am going to get the PIE module for my Ford Focus so I can use the AUX functionality. |
