Didn't work for me, May 2, 2009
This review is from: 4UCAM 7" LCD Wireless Truck RV Backup Rear view Camera With Color LCD Monitor + Night Vision
Please note this review is for the product, not the seller.
I had an issue with this setup. Perhaps it was defective but it just did not work for me. I ended up going with the wired option instead but that is another review.
This product just did not work as I expected. The reception was really poor. Granted I installed it on a very large Ford F350 Crew Cab with the full bed. But still, the box cover shows a gigantic dump truck using it and ... ha ha...that just can't be true.
There were two concerns I had:
1) Reception
Reception was really poor. No matter what I tried, I did not get
a good signal. It was a battle for me to get it stable at all, actually.
The camera was mounted above the hitch and the transmitter was extended
as far as it was designed (just ahead of the rear tire) but even then, the signal was just a total loss...
I ended up UN-wiring the whole thing and trying a simple test: I placed
the transmitter on the ground, connected all the power and placed the
LCD next to the transmitter. I got a decent picture, although it did have
a steady flicker but none-the-less it was acceptable. Then I picked up
the LCD and started to walk. About 2' in to my walk, the monitor just
started to go haywire. This was in line-of-sight! When you put steel
between the transmitter and monitor, it just does not work.
Perhaps the unit was bad? The recommendation from the seller was to
purchase a 20' extender and place the transmitter next to the LCD.
Hmmm...If I am going to do that, I might as well get the wired version.
2) Power logic is ... illogical.
The power feed on this unit was rather backwards. The camera feeds to
The transmitter and the transmitter feeds to 12v DC. Each run is about
10' but think about this: Most users want to wire the 12v DC to the rear
backup light circuit...which is in the BACK of the car. So, in order to
conveniently wire this unit, you have to shorten the length between
the camera and transmitter in order for the 12v DC wire to come BACK to
the trunk area. This is not right!
The correct pattern to wire a WIRELESS unit would be: Camera to 12v DC
then 12v DC to transmitter. This allows you to make your power connection
first then run the transmitter as far down as possible to get it as
close to the LCD for reception.
This is a huge disadvantage for any length of auto due to the illogical
pattern of wiring. It made it much worse for me since the span from
tailgate to LCD was easily 15'. Looping back for power made the run 50%
less than it should have been! Tell me how this was supposed to work for
the dumptruck pictured on the box?
I would have given this product a one star but the seller *really* tried to work with me! He was eager to assist with my basic situation. He instigated several conversations to keep the ball rolling and once he realized that I had a special circumstance, offered the wired version as an alternative (which worked GREAT for me, BTW)
In the end, this particular wireless unit should be redesigned to accommodate the logical power feed and video run. It should also switch to a different frequency band as 2.8Ghz is fairly busy these days. It is likely meant for folks who own a Fiesta/Prius/Storm/Miata owners. If you have a big truck, don't be lazy: Get the wired version for sure.
I have a video of the 2' demonstration if any one wants to see it. It explains everything.

Great motorhome system, April 13, 2009
This review is from: 4UCAM 7" LCD Wireless Truck RV Backup Rear view Camera With Color LCD Monitor + Night Vision
I have a 31' Class C and last year installed a back up camera and black and white, picture tube type, monitor, that I bought on the internet. I loved it! Unfortunately, 6 months later the camera gave out. So, I searched the internet. That's when I found 4UCAM and this system. Given the very low price, I was very skeptical about the quality of this system. I had paid the same price for a black and white monitor that had a 5 inch screen and took up a huge amount of space on my "doghouse".
A year later, and several thousand miles, I can say that this 7" color LCD wireless system is without doubt the best "add-on" I have put on my RV. I feel so much better and safer driving in traffic now, as well as backing. I wired it so the monitor and camera are on full time, unless I power them off. Another cool feature of this system is the infra red camera. We "boondock" most of the time. If I hear a noise outside our motorhome at night, I can see clearly what is behind us, in total darkness, on the monitor. I love it!!! If 4UCAM ever comes out with an infra red RV camera that I can tilt and pan, I will mount two of them on my rig! These systems are perfect in operation and excellently priced!
