Great camera,

This review is from: 4UCAM 7" LCD Wireless Truck RV Backup Rear view Camera With Color LCD Monitor + Night Vision
I installed the camera on an F150 with a camper shell. I put the camera at the top of the shell. I wired it so the camera and display come on with the ignition key. I replaced the rear view mirror with the 7" display. The camera is incredibly sharp and the display is great. All wireless cameras have some static caused jumble but this one has less than any I have seen. The display was a little hard to see in very bright sunlight but increasing the display brightness fixed that. The night views from the camera are dazzling. All-in-all this would have been a bargain at twice the price. I haven't been this pleased with a purchase since I got my Magellan GPS.The display can support a total of four wireless cameras and one wired camera. I may pick up another camera to mount on the back of my boat.

Please note this review is for the product, not the seller.I had an issue with this setup. Perhaps it was defective but it just did not work for me. I ended up going with the wired option instead but that is another review. This product just did not work as I expected. The reception was really poor. Granted I installed it on a very large Ford F350 Crew Cab with the full bed. But still, the box cover shows a gigantic dump truck using it and ... ha ha...that just can't be true. There were two concerns I had: 1) Reception Reception was really poor. No matter what I tried, I did not get a good signal. It was a battle for me to get it stable at all, actually. The camera was mounted above the hitch and the transmitter was extended as far as it was designed (just ahead of the rear tire) but even then, the signal was just a total loss... I ended up UN-wiring the whole thing and trying a simple test: I placed the transmitter on the ground, connected all the power and placed the LCD next to the transmitter. I got a decent picture, although it did have a steady flicker but none-the-less it was acceptable. Then I picked up the LCD and started to walk. About 2' in to my walk, the monitor just started to go haywire. This was in line-of-sight! When you put steel between the transmitter and monitor, it just does not work. Perhaps the unit was bad? The recommendation from the seller was to purchase a 20' extender and place the transmitter next to the LCD. Hmmm...If I am going to do that, I might as well get the wired version. 2) Power logic is ... illogical. The power feed on this unit was rather backwards. The camera feeds to The transmitter and the transmitter feeds to 12v DC. Each run is about 10' but think about this: Most users want to wire the 12v DC to the rear backup light circuit...which is in the BACK of the car. So, in order to conveniently wire this unit, you have to shorten the length between the camera and transmitter in order for the 12v DC wire to come BACK to the trunk area. This is not right! The correct pattern to wire a WIRELESS unit would be: Camera to 12v DC then 12v DC to transmitter. This allows you to make your power connection first then run the transmitter as far down as possible to get it as close to the LCD for reception. This is a huge disadvantage for any length of auto due to the illogical pattern of wiring. It made it much worse for me since the span from tailgate to LCD was easily 15'. Looping back for power made the run 50% less than it should have been! Tell me how this was supposed to work for the dumptruck pictured on the box? I would have given this product a one star but the seller *really* tried to work with me! He was eager to assist with my basic situation. He instigated several conversations to keep the ball rolling and once he realized that I had a special circumstance, offered the wired version as an alternative (which worked GREAT for me, BTW) In the end, this particular wireless unit should be redesigned to accommodate the logical power feed and video run. It should also switch to a different frequency band as 2.8Ghz is fairly busy these days. It is likely meant for folks who own a Fiesta/Prius/Storm/Miata owners. If you have a big truck, don't be lazy: Get the wired version for sure. I have a video of the 2' demonstration if any one wants to see it. It explains everything.

Great motorhome system,

This review is from: 4UCAM 7" LCD Wireless Truck RV Backup Rear view Camera With Color LCD Monitor + Night Vision
I have a 31' Class C and last year installed a back up camera and black and white, picture tube type, monitor, that I bought on the internet. I loved it! Unfortunately, 6 months later the camera gave out. So, I searched the internet. That's when I found 4UCAM and this system. Given the very low price, I was very skeptical about the quality of this system. I had paid the same price for a black and white monitor that had a 5 inch screen and took up a huge amount of space on my "doghouse".A year later, and several thousand miles, I can say that this 7" color LCD wireless system is without doubt the best "add-on" I have put on my RV. I feel so much better and safer driving in traffic now, as well as backing. I wired it so the monitor and camera are on full time, unless I power them off. Another cool feature of this system is the infra red camera. We "boondock" most of the time. If I hear a noise outside our motorhome at night, I can see clearly what is behind us, in total darkness, on the monitor. I love it!!! If 4UCAM ever comes out with an infra red RV camera that I can tilt and pan, I will mount two of them on my rig! These systems are perfect in operation and excellently priced!

I got what I paid for. The cameras (I bought a second camera 9901T) filled with water in spite of the "waterproof" claim. The approximately 16ft distance between camera and screen makes reception random. Lots of noise. From the description at purchase I understood the screen is supposed to power up on reception of signal but it doesn't - you need to keep it energized all the time and power on-off with the front button - otherwise there is a blue screen and the unit gets hot. The cheap paper stickers on the cameras were gone quickly exposed to the weather; once they were gone, the seller 4UCam would not take my return. (Read the fine print: the return of the defective merchandise would cost you $15.) So I did not return it, sadly enough. The windshield mount, which looked like the only good component of the set, has delaminated after several months. Therefore, I mounted the screen on the rear mirror. Cameras fogged and filled with water. In retrospective, I should have sealed thoroughly the cameras out of the box with a clear silicone.Update 02/2012: for several times the cameras fogged and filled with water so I cleaned it out and sealed with clear silicone every time. However after approximately one year the wireless camera failed completely and successfully resisted professional attempts of my father in law (who repairs electronic equipment for a living). The screen failed around the same time, making irritating noise out of speakers, which was solved by opening the case and unsoldering the speaker wires. After two years the camera powers up randomly, and often stays dark. Subsequently , I have already hit several objects with my rear gate and bumper, because I am too lazy to repair or redo the whole system again.

I am sorry I purchased this product. It is a nightmare. After I installed it the video is terrible, so I ordered an antenna extension cable. It still has a horrible picture on the monitor. Can something be done?

Video is the live demo of this system. Main Camera (wireless night vision) was installed on the license plate location on a Toyota Sienna Van. 2nd camera (without night vision) in front location. Monitor sat on the dash board in front. Additional camera style selection can be found on our web store. We also have GPS + wireless backup camera in one unit. Thank you for your time.

Screen Failed After 1 Year,
This review is from: 4UCAM 7" LCD Wireless Truck RV Backup Rear view Camera With Color LCD Monitor + Night Vision
The screen was bright while it lasted. Unfortunately, the image stopped working properly after one year - a total of two weeks of actual usage. After working for a few seconds, it turns to a hazy white display. The warranty on this item is very short, so be prepared to gamble. I lost and wished I'd bought something else with a decent warranty. Also, the wireless license plate camera that accompanied the LCD screen didn't send a sufficiently strong signal to handle a 26-foot RV. The picture would break-up and flip.

Don't waste your money,

This review is from: 4UCAM 7" LCD Wireless Truck RV Backup Rear view Camera With Color LCD Monitor + Night Vision
4UCAM 7" LCD Wireless Truck RV Backup Rear view Camera With Color LCD Monitor + Night VisionWhat a phenomenal piece of junk! Got as a Christmas present; and was really excited to install it. I've wanted something like this for a long time for my F-350 Super Duty to use with my trailer as well as for safety. I had to wait for a warm enough day; and sufficient free time to install it. So it was around the first part of April before I actually got around to it. The unit comes with an extraordinarily large camera. Way too large to mount on, or near my bumper. So went ahead and bought the license plate unit. Decided I would use the larger camera for the back of the trailer itself. The license plate camera came with a prewired transmitter. Sadly, there was absolutely no way to mount the transmitter given its configuration. The transmitters they show on their website appear to have an integrated mounting bracket. The unit I got had no such assembly. So, ended up using Velcro backing tape and installed it behind the driver side turn signal. Fortunately it did come with sufficient wire to reach that location. The camera came with NO mounting hardware whatsoever. Not even splices. I had to steal the splices from the original kit. Got the camera installed successfully, then moved on to the monitor. The windshield mount for the monitor is a cheesy, cheap plastic assembly. It has a knurled insert that is held in with some kind of cheap glue. It popped out instantly. Tried several things to get it to hold; but finally had to resort to Gorilla Glue. Turned on the monitor; and got a fuzzy, very noisy signal followed shortly by a bright blue screen (you know the kind you get when your television isn't getting a signal). Really! You've got to be kidding me! As you would expect, the camera is only active when the vehicle is in reverse. So for the other 99.9% of the time I'm driving forward, I have to watch a blue screen. Give me break! Nobody was smart enough to make it black, or turn off automatically when no signal is present. The wiring harness comes with 3 RCA Jacks so it can be used with a DVD unit as well. It is mounted on the bottom of the monitor rather than on the back. So forget trying to use the dashboard for additional support; and the wiring assembly drapes down in front of the radio. Need to rig up something to keep it back out of the way. Then, I began to notice interference on the monitor. WTF! Couldn't be from the camera, since it is only on when the vehicle is in reverse. So, I pulled out a poorly translated (from God only knows what language) insert that indicated that this was likely coming from either a 2.4 Ghz phone or (get ready for it) Bluetooth. Well, since I don't own a 2.4 Ghz wireless phone, the only thing left was my iPhone and/or my Bluetooth Handsfree unit. The Handsfree was off, so put the iPhone in Airplane mode. No dice, still interference. I suspect asking the neighbors to turn off their phones so I could back out of the driveway is probably out of the question. Finally, put the truck in reverse to see how it would behave with camera turned on. There was so much interference it was pretty much useless. There are places where I can back into (like work, or shopping centers) where the interference isn't nearly as pronounced. So, think the iPhone is off the hook on this one as well. The camera apparently uses a fish eye lens. This badly distorts the image making everything seem closer than it really is. It does bring more area into focus which is a positive; but does take time to get used to (if it had worked long enough for me to get used to it). So, blue screen with interference patterns when the camera is off, badly distorted images, an extremely poor windshield mount, what else could go wrong. Well, you guessed it, the monitor went out two week after I had installed it. Just poof! Completely stopped working. Attempted to contact the company; but they refuse to respond to e-mails. Looked on their website, found out they only have a 30 day warranty!!! OMG! This is an even bigger joke! And BTW be prepared to pay for the shipping yourself if you return it within that 30 day time period! If they're willing to even offer an RMA which is a requirement to get it returned. Of course, they would actually have to respond to you in order to give you the RMA. BTW, this is information from their website. I was well outside of the 30 days, so didn't even bother to attempt. Please don't make the same mistake the person who bought this for me did. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CAMEARA AND THESE PEOPLE!!!

Excellent Item,
This review is from: 4UCAM 7" LCD Wireless Truck RV Backup Rear view Camera With Color LCD Monitor + Night Vision
I purchased this item to use primarily as a rear view mirror for my trailer.I mounted the camera on the back of my trailer on the upper drip edge, so it couldn't be accessed by people from the ground, and put the sending unit on the front of the trailer above the hitch.I use the trailer power supply because the camera is on all the time when I am towing,so wireing it to the reverse switch would not work. The picture is excellent both night and day and it functions as advertised and the technical support was excellent via phone and email. My only suggestion was that the documentation should contain more explicate direction which the manufacturer said they were improving.
