1.0 out of 5 stars Severely Outdated - Do not buy it.
This book is very, very outdated. For example, it predicts that LMDS will be the clear winner in broadband wireless coverage. The market leaders predicted by this book are all bankrupt.

Wireless Broadband is an extremely comprehensive treatment of the broadband networking technology. The author has done a superb job of dissecting every conceivable aspect of broadbands from installation to methodology; LMDS, MMDS, WLL, etc. All the current protocols are described with complete instructions to their implementations. I highly recommend this book for networking students and professionals in the field of computer networking and telecommunication engineering. This book has it all, including schematics/plots, and numerous topology examples. The internet has relentlessly driven the telecom industry into more extensive networking means, and wireless broadbands are clearly the offering of choice. Read this book to stay abreast of the current wireless trends. Highly recommended reading.

I'm a technical trainer for a large telecommunications company. As such, I'm always looking for ways to make my classroom more student friendly and easier to work with. Looking into wireless networking to eliminate some of the hardware from the classroom brought me to John Vacca's book. I found everything I needed (including vendors and places that supply the equipment I need) and a virtual battleship of additional information! Its an interesting game to play; read this book and look out the window at the kids playing in the park across the street... you'll shake your head at the unfathomable techno-future those kids will be taking for granted!

5.0 out of 5 stars Compulsory reading, comprehensive, AND comprehensible!, July 11, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Wireless Broadband Networks Handbook (Paperback)
It is blatantly obvious that wireless is the only direction in which communications technology can move, and nobody dealing with information distribution or basic data transmission, at any technical level, should remain ignorant in this area. John Vacca explores many of the applications that cannot be implemented otherwise. He describes the pros and cons of the possible carriers, and he guides us through the "alphabet soup" of the various methodologies. The book is a combination of intriguing futures to plan towards, of existing technologies to investigate, (such as MBCS of which we were unaware), and of very pragmatic information such as, (for our own existing implementation), diagnosis of rf impairments/interferences.

And once again, Vacca has digested esoteric technology into a logical sequence of comprehensible bites, and made it readable!
