When I read the reviews and description I thought this would work perfectly in my 2 small conference rooms. I missed the "Line of Sight" phrase. I have installed two of these with a ceiling mounted projector with the receivers above the ceiling on the false ceiling tiles. One works the other has issues with interference. When I contacted IOGear's support I was told "Can't be installed like that, this is an absolute line of sight device, there can be nothing between the transmitter and the receiver". Beware if you plan on installing any place were there is something between the transmitter and receiver.

Two stars because of the line of sight and I did have issues with installation. I had to reinstall the drivers after making display changes which caused BSOD. After re-installation of drivers I was able to make the same display changes. The drivers seem to be touchy at best, and yes you need to install IOGear drivers. Even when not using the device their software is controlling screen resolutions.

I recently purchased this product and have had nothing but trouble with it. I had double checked to make sure that the product had worked with Windows 8 before I purchased it, and it did. The product had trouble installing drivers and continued to keep asking to restart the computer. I followed up by checking the IOGear website to see that the product doesn't support Windows 8.1. I emailed support and said that there was no ETA for the fix. I hope to save someone the headache I endured.

GUWAVKIT4 sends a strong signal, but:

1. Unlike the GUWAVKIT2, the USB PC adaptor has an inflexible dongle. If the USB port on your computer is unaligned with the TV, you are out of luck. Why make it difficult (this time) for the consumer to insert the adaptor? You will have to ask the IOGEAR technicians who put this product together.
2. After installing the software on my win8, several programs stopped working in desktop (win7)mode. The HP support assistand and the weather channel app are two that come to mind. For me to access those programs, I have to uninstall the guwavkit software. Of course the product engineers made sure there was no way of simply disabling the product.

Need I say more.

Works as expected. Quality is good and setup was easy. We have only used it a couple of times, but it has worked well every time.

So, I got this device to work with a fairly new iMac, but it wasn't straightforward. In the end I am more or less happy with the product, it does a reasonably good job. Mac software seems to be an afterthought from many hardware vendors, including this one, but overall, with a number of extra parts, I got the whole thing working.

To get this working you will need
- a short usb female to usb male cable/adapter, so you can put the transmitter where it will get good reception
- if you need vga support (on mac), you will need an HDMI to VGA adapter despite the built in vga port (vga is windows only I guess). This also has to be an adapter built for making HDMI into VGA, most are the other way around. Startech makes one that works (look for StarTech HD2VGAE2 HDMI to VGA Converter for Desktop PC/Laptop/Ultrabooks).
- A bit of patience with the buggy mac software.

First off, the manual for the Mac omits a step. When you download the drivers from the vendor, you will also need to install the drivers, after you install the wireless connection manager. This step should go in between "Install the wireless connection manager" and "Setup the hardware" in the manual. It's actually supposed to happen automagically, but does not.

Once you've done the install, reboot your Mac. Once you plug in the device, you need to go to the Display section of your system preferences. If your computer freezes, reboot it. If you don't see the plugged in receiver listed (the light on the receiver will not go on when its *just* plugged in), reboot your Mac.

You will need to turn on the screen that this device is connected to before it will be detected by the Mac. Once the driver starts working, the screen will go all-blue for a second.

I love it! I use it in my classroom. It's very easy to use. I plug it into my laptop and its ready to be used. I use it in my classroom and although at times the computer may be out of range, the image still shows perfectly. I have never lost connectiontion.

It took me a couple of tries on Windows 7 to make it run. First go-around, I thought the receiver was faulty, due to not lighting up. Turned out there were another couple of steps to finish drivers. It works flawlessly sitting on the ceiling-mounted projector at our church. No problems at all.
