This remote worked perfect for me. I have a home theater PC and needed an IR remote so I could program another remote with multiple device capability. I thought about installing an IR in my PC, but saw this and couldn't pass up the ease and low cost to give it a try. It worked perfect!! Warning: It took six weeks for delivery!!

While the included remote can control Windows Media Center, it is NOT an actual Media Center remote. There is a difference. If you were looking for a compact Media Center compatible IR receiver this is NOT it. The code set used by the included remote is not the same as the genuine Microsoft solution. You MUST use the included remote. The four way cursor emulates a mouse, not the arrow keys.

$8: you get what you pay for. Windows Media Center users should look elsewhere.

It works as well as can be expected for the price, but I find that it has some problems.

1) It starts in mouse mode. The mouse mode is on the receiver, not on the remote, so if you unplug the receiver and plug it back in, it will switch to mouse mode. I usually need the arrow keys to act like a keyboard, not a mouse, so this is a drawback for me.

2) I wanted to use the the receiver and send it keys from my universal remote. The universal remote (URC WR7) was able to learn from the remote but I didn't find code built-in to the URC that work with this receiver. I think that it uses some non-standard encoding. It would be better if it were compatible with some big-brand of remote, like the Microsoft MCE.

Otherwise, it does its job well and the range is great. If you have a media center and you have no remote at all, this remote will be a huge step up for you. If you want to work with a universal remote, I think that a flirc (costs triple) will provide a smoother experience.

The remote is an amazing value. While not the build quality of a Harmony, it works exactly as expected. The IR receiver has great range. The included USB cable is a bit on the short side, but better than nothing.

I primarily purchased this because I needed an inexpensive IR receiver on my HTPC so I can control it with my Harmony One. I'm utilizing the Input buttons (My Video, My TV, FM Radio, etc.) to launch various A/V apps (XBMC, Sling Players, Pandora) with the help of a program to customize Windows hotkeys. The Close button is also super convenient.
