I LOVED the old chamberlain intercoms with four channels and a volume control, but they don't make that one anymore and it's replacement is quite expensive After searching the internet for weeks I settled on these ones at about half the price of the other new model. The real beauty of this product is its simplicity. Push a button and talk. It does not have wires nor does it need to be plugged into a wall so it is truly portable. I miss the volume control of the older model, the level on this one is a bit low but it does do the trick for simple communication. I just wish it would work with my one remaining old Chaimberlain which I think was the best ever made.

First of all, under the product description it reads:1,000' range Includes 1 doorbell, this intercom has a very short range of about 100 feet with no obstructions & about 50 feet if you have trees and other buildings in the way. IT HAS NO DOORBELL - NONE, just 2 intercoms that do not ring the other intercom, there is a tone on the unit your talking from but it in no way rings the other intercom, voice quality is very poor and intercoms work intermittently - in other words - sometimes it intercoms, sometimes it don't. I have another Chamberlain Product called the Reporter driveway alarm and it works great, even 1,000 feet away and in same 100 foot locations these intercoms will not. GO FIGURE? I'am buying a hard wired intercom doorbell. I'll update this review if [...] gives me any return problems, still waiting to hear from them.

Poor design,

Bought this for elderly mother. The long delay from the time you push the button untl you can talk is confusing to a non-techy person. The fact that the initial "beep" after pushing the button is only on the talking side doesn't help the listening/recipient to know to listen. If both push the button too cloes in sequence, no one hears anything. "Walkie Talkies" from the 70s were easier to use, which is essentially what these are with a long delay before you can actually talk. No volume adjustment; also difficult for an elderly person. Not worth sending back because by the time the customer pays full price shipping, you might as well find another use...or throw them out. Not weather proof...resistent perhaps. Each takes 4 AA batteries. Might as well be a 9 volt battery. Sad.
