4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent For Mac!
I've been using a 12" Powerbook G4 for about 3 months now and the one gripe I've had with it is the horrible Airport Wireless reception. I would be at a table next to a newer MacBook getting full reception, and I can't get anything. After doing research and some reception tests, I found that the aluminum of the laptop blocks much of the reception built in. As such, I went...

1.0 out of 5 stars Needs Work
This has a lot of potential but is very troublesome. First of all the instructions are horrible and you pretty much have to learn how to work it from trial and error. Second of all, this acts as an external wireless card used to connect to the internet and will delete your current internal wireless cards driver so it no longer works! Every single time I use this thing I...

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent For Mac!, November 12, 2008

This review is from: PLANEX Wireless-N Nano USB 2.0 Adapter 802.11b/g/n New Ultra Mini USB Adapter Dongle(latest compact version) with Wireless Client, Software AP, Xlink functions GW-USNano Windows 7, Mac OSX 10.6 supported/MAC Compatible USB adapter for PSP, Nintendo DS, Wii, iPhone 3G, iPod touch internet connection (Personal Computers)
As such, I went out looking for a wireless USB adapter to correct this. There aren't many that work with Mac, and even those that do are usually bulky and rather large. I saw this, and figured for $30 I could at least try it. It's fairly small, and seemed nicely designed.

When it arrived, I was instantly worried. The package is printed wrong and states that the internet connection function doesn't work with Mac, while their website (planex.net) says that it does (the website is correct, the internet connection works with Mac). Installing the software isn't the easiest thing to do, you not only need to download the software from their website (not the correct version on the CD), but the software isn't highly user friendly. Once you figure out what each menu function does, it's easy, but there's no help as to each function.

Once the software is installed, you just plug it in and the wireless manager automatically opens. It has an excellent array of wireless statistics to analyze what is available and each signals specifications. It also allows you to setup wireless 'profiles', which is the same as 'remembering' a network. It doesn't seem as fast as a MacBook Pro with built in wireless N, but it's definitely faster than the built in B/G wireless. The build quality is fairly high, and while it's all plastic, it feels fairly sturdy. The entire end is an orange status light, and the form factor is fairly unobtrusive considering it's a USB wireless device. The reception is amazingly improved over the built-in; I'm seeing networks I didn't even know were around me.

Overall, I would recommend this to Mac users who need better reception than older laptops provide. Most of the newer models have corrected this, but some MacBook Pros and most Powerbooks and earlier models made of metal can benefit in reception from this external device. The only other device I would consider is the Hawking HWUG1A Hawking Wireless G USB Network Adapter with external SMA jack, Apple Compatible - HWUG1A.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works with xlink!, July 28, 2009
This review is from: PLANEX Wireless-N Nano USB 2.0 Adapter 802.11b/g/n New Ultra Mini USB Adapter Dongle(latest compact version) with Wireless Client, Software AP, Xlink functions GW-USNano Windows 7, Mac OSX 10.6 supported/MAC Compatible USB adapter for PSP, Nintendo DS, Wii, iPhone 3G, iPod touch internet connection (Personal Computers)
I purchased this product so I could play Monster Hunter Freedom Unite online over xlink kai. Both my laptop running Vista and my PC running XP have the adapter installed and working. It didn't take too long to set it up on either OS, the xlink website has some great tutorials on getting this adapter up and running and synced with the console for both Windows & Mac operating systems. There is a bit of lag in the adapter detecting that I have left an ad-hoc room, but it is nothing major. The only problem I have is that occasionally other hunters will not show in the Gathering Hall, however I do not know if this is an xlink problem or an issue with the adapter itself. I defiantly suggest getting this when it comes back in stock!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Product for Macbook, December 10, 2008

I bought this Mini2N USB and when I first bought it I thought I wasted my money, because it didn't work even though I installed the CD software. Well it turns out you need to download some software on their site at [...] Then from there since I have a Macbook I had to download the V 1.1.6.0 driver... I use to get signal w/ my computer only near my window, and even the signal sucked, now with this Mini2N USB I'm able to get signal at our dinner table. I feel like my computer is superior now, it's better than them other computers. Well I hope this was helpful...

It's a great product, especially it's not available in Singapore yet. It took me some time to install, but once you have done it, it is great fun.

Mainly use it to play over xkai, easy access, strong signal. Instillation was easy. It does get warm though so take a break every few hours and unplug it.

I use this with my N_Max LevelOne Wireless router and works very well, i get 150mbps. Using this with Windows 7 beta and the signal is always 100%, and the pc is far from the wireless (pc in room), the best of all? is very cheap.

Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad., October 27, 2009
This review is from: PLANEX Wireless-N Nano USB 2.0 Adapter 802.11b/g/n New Ultra Mini USB Adapter Dongle(latest compact version) with Wireless Client, Software AP, Xlink functions GW-USNano Windows 7, Mac OSX 10.6 supported/MAC Compatible USB adapter for PSP, Nintendo DS, Wii, iPhone 3G, iPod touch internet connection (Personal Computers)
Not a bad product at all. I've only used it for xlink kai to play PSP online. I've never been more than a few feet from the router so I can't comment on the range. It was delivered in like 2 days which is cool. It was a little hard to install, but I was specifically trying to use it for the PSP. (Remember to use the right drivers. :) ) If you are just looking for a wireless adapter the installation is basically plug n play.

Overall I'd rate the product an 8/10.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Great for Mac!, August 5, 2009

Technology can always be improved...works great but one time it grabbed a bad IP address or something and I had to unplug/replug it a few times. On the auto configure setting it grabs a random IP every time so usually it works but I'm sure manually configuring would make it flawless. I used it for a mac and it worked fine! 4.5/5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome piece of equipment!!!!, October 23, 2011

First I wish to say thank you to Vocalsurf who replied to my wish list and sent me one of these super fast and at an amazing price almost four(4)years after this particular product came out on the market!!!! Thank you, thank you. I also wish to apologize for the dragged out comment, but most of you readers might find something important that is relevant to you and might thus save you time and money. OK, so on to my actual review......
About 4 weeks ago I was watching some videos of "Monster Hunter Freedom Unite" on YouTube, for those who don't know this is an awesome PSP game, and noticed that players were connected to each other via the internet. Currently it is the year 2011, so for most this may not come as a shock, however, it came as quite a surprise to me because i knew that MHFU is an ad-hoc only game and has no infrastructure mode what so ever. This means that players must be located around the same router at any given time to play with each other during a game, but these guys were doing the exact opposite! After reading a few posts/ comments I came to the realization that I either needed a PS3 or a WiFi adapter to connect me to other players via the internet, the WiFi adapter was really my only choice. After looking for quite some time at countless adapters i found one under the name "WiFi Max". It looked like a great product and it also said it was Windows Vista compatible, so in an excited flurry of wonderment, I coughed up the 40 dollars plus shipping and waited for my adapter. About 4 days later it came!!!! excited and ready to connect to others, I downloaded the software and ran the adapter, ....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................3 weeks passed and I still could not connect to other players via the internet! I had tried every possible solution, every algorithmic probability, explored every nook and cranny and still came up two dimes short of a quarter. I even went on Xlink Kai, the program posted on the side of this product and found various solutions to trouble shooting adapter problems with running a WiFi Max adapter, ([...]). In the end I was left 40 dollars short and possessed an adapter that was quite useless. While exploring Xlink Kai I found a list of compatible adapters and this one showed up. After reading the reviews and exploring the possibilities, I found that this adapter, although it does not say in the description, is Windows Vista compatible!!!

Please visit this website, it really saved me: [...]

the only problem was that this item was "currently unavailable" so i added it to my wish list. Five(5) days later Vocalsurf had delivered it to my door. Ever since plugging it in, I have had no problems at all and was able to connect to Xlink Kai and thus other players with ease. Great product and I would recommend it to anyone interested in playing online.

Please also take note: To play online you will need, 1. A PC or Mac.
2. This adapter; GW USMini2N.
3. Downloaded version of Xlink Kai.
4. one router to connect to the internet.
after that, this product works like magic to sync your Sony PSP or any other game console, as you'll see on Xlink Kai, to your computer and thus the internet. Have fun gaming!!!!!
