The manufacturer settings and the software itself are lame. I couldn't get a connection to the device, and running software just got the "error: call customer support" line. Tried resetting the device, tried a few different computers; FAQs and support at the site are lacking. After a long time spent searching i found some useful info on setting it up manually. Search for "How can i configure my pelican wireless gaming adapter?" in google, and choose the first result from the yahoo domain. Here's the text, just in case:
Using Windows XP or Vista: Turn off the wireless feature of the PC you will be using to setup the adapter. · Plug the adapter into your PC's Ethernet port and wait at least 3 minutes for the adapter to boot up before continuing to the next step. · Select the "Start Menu" icon and click on Control Panel. · Select "Network and Sharing Center". · From the left sidebar, select the "Manage Network Connections" option. · Right click the "Local Network" icon and select the properties option. · Highlight the IPv4 option and click the properties tab. · Select the "Use the following IP address" option and enter this IP address: 192.168.1.222 · Enter the following address for Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 · Enter the following address for Default gateway: 192.168.1.1 · Press the OK tab and close the "Local Area Connection" window. · Open the internet browser of your choice and enter 192.168.1.99 in the address or location field. · If a "Windows Dialogue box" appears, enter Username: "Admin" and leave password blank. If no windows box appeared, continue to next step. · Make sure the login name is "admin" and enter the word "password" for password. · Select the WIRELESS SETTINGS tab. · Go to "Basic Settings" and enter the name of your router or wireless network in the SSID field. (You can press the "Site Survey" button if you are unsure of the name of your network or router) · Click on APPLY to save the settings. · Select the SECURITY tab and click on "Encryption Method." · Enter your network password or security key in the Password field. · Click APPLY to save the settings. · Disconnect the adapter from your PC and its power supply. · Connect the adapter to the power supply and the Xbox 360. · Once the adapter is connected to the Xbox 360, allow it to "self-setup" for at least 2 minutes. · You can now go to the system tab of the Xbox 360 dashboard and select NETWORK SETTINGS to test the network connection and make sure you are connected to the Internet. · Go back to your PC and re-enter the network settings property page. · Select "Obtain an IP address automatically" and press the OK button. So if you have trouble with the software, follow the steps to set it up manually. Now it's up and running; all the other devices on the network are connected ok; speed seems fine (now many months in, speed has been perfect, and never had a dropped connection), and now I don't have to pay $$ to let Microsoft rip me off. I'm satisfied. Some people have complained about the fact that it needs an external power source, but I rather prefer not having devices drawing power from the 360. Less chance of RRoD that way.

I read a lot of reviews on this product and was a bit concerned about purchasing. I bit the bullet, because I needed a way to hook up entertainment center items to my wireless network. This adapter was a little difficult to set up, but I've learned that wireless networks are never as easy as advertised, so I was not surprised. Still only took me about a half hour to get up and running. My main goal was to get internet access to my media room components, but didn't want to run wires throughout the house. This product did exactly what I needed.
The beauty of this adapter is that it uses ethernet, and can therefore be hooked up to another router and voila, you have multiple items connected to your wireless network. I've got the adapter plugged into a linksys router I had lying around so that now both my Xbox 360 and my Directv receiver are both hooked up to the wireless network. I can add any other components that have an ethernet adapter now by just using a network cable and the appropriate switches/routers. Pros: * Can be used as a wireless access point allowing your wireless signal much more flexibility. Cons: * Setup was a little painful - probably would be frustrating for the first-time networker.

I bought this product recently and I was surprized to see its size. From the pictures on the web it looked kind of bulky however it is no more than the size of a sandwich and surprising light too.
The setup was a cakewalk if you followed the instructions and you are online in a flash. I am very much satisfied with this product. Great Value for Money! The difference is in the price.. the microsoft one costs $100 and the pelican one costs $70 Retail. It is supposed to do the same thing as the Microsoft wireless adapter (connect to a router) but only cheaper and without using up a usb port.

Buyer beware,
This review is from: Wireless Network Adapter/Access Point for Xbox 360 (Video Game)
I recently moved & lost my XBox 360 wireless network adapter, so that put me in the unfortunate situation of A) spending $100 on another wireless adapter or B) find a cheaper solution.
I went with option B and purchased the Pelican Wireless Network Adapter for XBox 360. Less than 24 hours after the fact, I regret this decision and will be taking this back. After configuring it on my computer, I went to hook it up to my 360. Failed test after failed test, I call Microsoft's customer service. They inform me that the Pelican Wireless Network Adapter is not supported by the 360 and it rarely works on the 360. So, learn from my mistake & stay away from this devices.

My 15 y/o bought this for his Xbox 360. We spent 3 days trying to get this thing to work, called support (no help at all) and eventually returned the item back to the store.
Do not recommend at all. Pelican brand is not worth the time or effort.

Honestly, depending on your situation, this wireless adapter can be more grief than anything. if your set up is of a specific type that is friendly to this product, you are good to go but most set ups are not.
1. Each time I want to use my xbox, I have to reboot the pelican, and conduct an xbox live test,it is the ONLY way I can connect. 2. Unless it is 5 feet from your router, connection is bad and your bandwidth will change constantly. 3. You will lag and get booted from online games at random. 4. In order to get it to work with my computer, and brand new net gear router that is meant specifically for gaming applications, I had to perform a 28 step installation process literally, no aggageration whatsoever, and it took several hours to get it to work properly. You get what you pay for, either get the xbox approved and made product, or take the time to run the wire...the hardwire is a bit more physical work, but once it is done,it is done forever with a faster non failling connection everytime. Do not buy this, you have been warned.

"SHORT RANGE" wireless solution,

I am somewhat happy with this xbox360 wireless adapter. It DOES connect me to xbox live without having to string a cable through my house, but it doesn't really give me the full connection i would have, it also kicks me offline every so often, making it hard to play games online. It would probably work well if your wireless router were close by (say 15 unobstructed feet) but i think i would rather just find a REALLY long cable and try that instead, and for the price these adapters cost, you can definately get the cord, that would be my suggestion.

I bought this wireless adapter to network my DVR. What a pain to setup, especially with Vista (the supplied configuration software doesn't work under Vista).
You've got directly hook your PC's ethernet cable to this adapter (ther is no USB interface) and reconfigure your PC's IPv4 settings to be able to reach this adapter and configure it. It will run fine for a few weeks an then just forget the configuration and you have to do it all over agian.

I just bought this product and was looking forward to a cheaper than microsoft wireless solution. After a day of working to get the network through my router I called support. They told me the unit has been having many problems with setup (due to IP address problems) and I should return it. Some support.
