Wireless Network Coexistence deals with the integration and practical applications of the entire gamet of wireless services, including Wi-Fi, Wi-Media, ZigBee, and Bluetooth. It discusses what each of the services has to offer, what can be accomplished with each, and how each fits into an integrated wireless solution.

* Covers all "flavors" of 802.11: a, b, and g
* Explores 802.15 and its applications in home automation
* Includes cutting-edge information on Wi-Media, still in the draft stage of becoming a standard

Contents: Introduction * Indoor RF Propagation and Diversity Techniques * Basic Modulation and Coding * Advanced Modulation and Coding * Radio Performance * Medium Access Control * Passive Coexistence * Active Coexistence * Coexistence with Other Services

EARTHY DETAILS ON OVER-THE-AIR NETWORKS
If you're responsible for wireless systems -- design, maintenance, or operation -- put yourself in the capable hands of Dr. Bob Morrow. One of this country's leading wireless experts and trainers, Morrow provides the technical insight, practical methods, and been-there-done-that confidence you need to blend disparate pieces to create an optimal system.

NITTY-GRITTY KNOW-HOW
An authority with over two decades of experience in wireless design, and an instructor in wireless for one of the world's leading technical training firms, Morrow here shares his top dollar expertise. In Wireless Network Coexistence, he shows you how to choose the right services for the differing applications integrate and configure protocols for seamless, efficient performance, and make wireless systems function smoothly and reliably, together or separately—with interference minimized. Wireless Network Coexistence, helps you:

  • Evaluate the suitability of Wi-Fi (802.11 a, b, and g), Bluetooth (802.15.1), WiMedia (802.15.3), and ZigBee (802.15.4), to your needs, objectives, and circumstances
  • Discover how the rules in various regulatory domains influenced the development of wireless standards
  • Meet the significant challenges of designing and deploying multiple wireless networks within the same physical area
  • Leverage the benefits in all flavors of 802.11 within the standard's stringent restrictions
  • Make the right choices in signal propagation, advanced modulation techniques, and network connectivity options
  • Develop solutions for operating frequencies, packet structure, and channel access mechanisms
  • Analyze the extensive passive coexistence mechanisms integrated into the various wireless network standards
  • Learn techniques for reducing interference through active coexistence methods
  • Determine the suitability of using ultra-wideband for communicating at high data rates
  • Build flexible systems ready for developing technologies, such as Wi-Media and ZigBee
  • Study the nature of interference from the microwave oven
  • Discover the safety implications of operating wireless networks onboard commercial aircraft

THE INTEGRATED GUIDE TO WIRELESS Packed with tested solutions, essential information on equipment, and helpful formulas, Wireless Network Coexistence is a real-world guide to designing and building wireless systems. Included are: Introduction * Indoor RF Propagation and Diversity Techniques • Basic Modulation and Coding * Advanced Modulation and Coding * Radio Performance * Medium Access Control * Passive Coexistence * Active Coexistence * Coexistence with Other Services * List of Abbreviations

About the Author

Robert Morrow received a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Air Force Academy, a Master of Science degree from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. degree from Purdue University, all in electrical engineering. Bob taught undergraduate engineering and was the Director of Research at the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he also piloted the aircraft used by the Wings of Blue parachute team. A few years earlier he jumped out of a perfectly good airplane several times so the parachute team wouldn't accuse him of being chicken. As Deputy Head of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the Air Force Institute of Technology, he flew a desk and taught graduate-level engineering courses. At various times during his Air Force career, Bob instructed in turbojet, turboprop, and reciprocating military aircraft. Dr. Morrow is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), has published over two dozen technical articles, holds a U.S. patent, and is an Advanced Class Amateur Radio operator. He authored the book Bluetooth Operation and Use, published by McGraw-Hill in 2002. Bob presently serves as a consultant and short course instructor in short-range wireless networks.
