Light and breezy, no clouds in sight,
By Lefty "Lefty" (TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wireless Networking with Microsoft Windows Vista (Paperback)
Written for a beginner to wireless networks and Vista, this is good. The book covers the basics on how to plan and deploy a wireless network. You could get a system up and running with the book's advice.
That being said, the chapter on security is light. I wanted information on the various types of encryption, and what steps I must take to secure the network. Not much there.

Wireless Networking with Microsoft Windows Vista is a good book for beginners. The author does a great job of explaining the technology in layman's terms and provides helpful hints along the side. The book covers purchasing equipment, setup, advanced wireless setup and basic troubleshooting.
For those that take in information visually, the author includes screen shots and photos. The author provides a great deal of information on the various Wi-Fi technologies and how the technologies work with each other. All though the book is titled for Vista, the author provides information on integrating Windows XP into the network. As a security professional, I would have liked to have seen more emphasis on setting up a secure network throughout the entire book instead of waiting until half way through the book.

This book is good but not great. Does not cover everything but I don't think there is any one book out there that explains everything about Wireless Networking.

Pretty good book which explains Vista Wireless Networking. However with the Vista OS it is easy to set up a home network. One of the things that Vista does better than XP.
