5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Got the book on a Wednesday.....took the test 6 days later on a Tuesday. 967 out of 1000 on the CCNA-Wireless test. Easy to follow book, and the test questions on the CD are a great prep for the test.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not good enough for wireless fundamentals, December 29, 2008
This review is from: CCNA Wireless Official Exam Certification Guide (CCNA IUWNE 640-721) (Hardcover)
Perhaps this text would be appropriate for somebody seeking the CCNA Wireless certification, but this book seriously falls short on wireless and radio fundamentals. In the opening chapters the author introduces the concept of phase before he even describes a waveform and its components. It also contains a lot of inaccuracies. He goes into detail about the differences between DSSS bit rates and their associated encoding techniques but barely describes OFDM or 802.11n at all.

For those seeking knowledge on how to pass the CCNA Wireless exam and how to configure Cisco AP components, this book is a necessary acquisition but those who are seeking solid entry knowledge into the world of 802.11 administration should check out the CWNA book from Sybex.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rushed to Press, July 29, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: CCNA Wireless Official Exam Certification Guide (CCNA IUWNE 640-721) (Hardcover)
I have read many reviews about the errata, typos, and general feel that this book was rushed to press, and I must agree. Many of the opening chapters seem merely to be a hodgepodge of tables pulled from Cisco documentation with no real description of the meaning of the material. Most of the figures within the book either have no bearing on what is being discussed, or are in organized in a way to make the example nearly impossible to follow. Though I understand this is a CCNA-level book, I found description of radio technologies are rushed and shallow and left me scratching my head, though I have worked with IP of radio systems of all sorts for a decade.

I admire what was attempted, from radio theory to basic deployment of a Cisco wireless network in less than 500 pages. Yet, even with the most experienced writer/engineer, this would be a Herculean effort.

3.0 out of 5 stars up to date, December 20, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: CCNA Wireless Official Exam Certification Guide (CCNA IUWNE 640-721) (Hardcover)
I teach Cisco wireless at community college. this book will be the text for next semester because it contains up to date info on Lightweight Access Points and controllers. The first third of the book is basic wireless technology (using Linksys as example because Cisco owns Linksys), and the 2nd part is about basic standalone APs.
My only complaint is that the bookjacket claimed that the CD inlcuded exam questions and ebook -- no ebook, only a link to Safari and a code good for 45 days.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wait for second edition, May 25, 2010
This review is from: CCNA Wireless Official Exam Certification Guide (CCNA IUWNE 640-721) (Hardcover)
This book is so full of errors that it is unacceptable. Save your time and money and wait for the second edition. If you MUST have it now, there are corrections available at Cisco Press. Be prepared, there are 5 sections to download and total over 50 pages. You will spend well over 40 hours just correcting the book BEFORE you can start reading it. There are way too many errors to read it first.

This might not be so bad but there are still errors in the book that do not get corrected and there are even errors in the corrections!!

I am a working Network Engineer and have passed multiple Cisco certifications. This has been the worst book I have seen from them. Even at their best you really need a book from someone else to get all the information you need.

I spent more time correcting the book than reading it. It is pity that Cisco Press released such a low quality book. There are fundamental errors in it and they will definately lead you to fail the exams (and your 180 euros...). At least wait for the second edition, if not the second edition of the certification. I don't know how official is this guide but it fails to answer more than 40% of the review questions at [...] and more than 50% of the CCNA Wireless 640-721 Cert Flash Cards Online

1.0 out of 5 stars Book ok, exam question bank on CD grossly inadequate, June 9, 2009

While the book is adequate, the supposedly "realistic exam questions" on the cd-rom miss the mark by a mile. I tried to take the exam yesterday and there was little resemblance between the questions on the cd-rom and the questions in the exam.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is a Really bad book, March 29, 2010
By
This review is from: CCNA Wireless Official Exam Certification Guide (CCNA IUWNE 640-721) (Hardcover)
Firstly the amount of typo's and errors in this book are amazing! Secondly the material covered in this book bare's little or no resemblance to the amount of coverage required to take and pass the CCNA wireless exam. You would be very hard pushed to just read this book and pass! This book appears to have been rushed to print and for that reason I would definitely suggest using any other material except this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor, October 25, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: CCNA Wireless Official Exam Certification Guide (CCNA IUWNE 640-721) (Hardcover)
This book really does come up way short as far as being able to prepare for the exam. The questions on the cd weren't even close to the types of questions on the actual test. In fact there were questions on things not even mentioned. Reading through the book it's obvious that it was rushed through. Simply put it's not a very good tool to use. Unfortunately there aren't many other options for anyone hoping to take the IUWNE 640-721.

2.0 out of 5 stars Superficial and sometimes inaccurate, April 6, 2009
This review is from: CCNA Wireless Official Exam Certification Guide (CCNA IUWNE 640-721) (Hardcover)
I don't expect much from Cisco Press books but this one is still poor even by that standard. Knowing this book by heart will still leave you failing the exam, but it does give you a feeling for the truly nit-picky nature of the exam. As for the book, not only does it skimp on details, but there are some really funny gaffs. He cites the RFC for Everything Over IP to explain Ethernet Over IP.

3.0 out of 5 stars for the newbies using Cisco Wireless products, February 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: CCNA Wireless Official Exam Certification Guide (CCNA IUWNE 640-721) (Hardcover)
I baught this book for my studies with Wireless Lan Controller and Cisco APs. I am not satisfied with the coverage of the subjects with this book. Cisco Wireless Lan Controller subjects are not covered well. A lot of subjects are missing. If you are newbie with the cisco wireless products you can read it otherwise it is only waste of time with reading this book.
