Just received this product today, and from the moment I took it out of the box, it did not work as it was supposed to. The receivers only worked inconsistently at best; they did not always beep in response to the transmitter button. I have to salute this manufacturer for producing a quality product. My experience in Product R&D goes back when I worked for a company (not in business anymore) specializing in gadget products. Me and my team tried for a few years to develop a key finder product but never were able to actually get it to work properly. It would work periodically (when it was in the mood). We also had problems with the battery life, it wouldn't last more than a month.

I bought this out of curiosity to see if this really works. Let me say this, it passed my test with flying colors.

1) distance: It worked across my whole house which is 100 feet
2) Sound: It is loud enough if you are within 75 feet. I would take away a half a star, it could have been a bit louder, but for its size it is the most I can expect.
3)Durability: I don't have it long enough to say how long it will last but the construction feels strong enough for everyday use.
4) Dimensions: The size of the receivers are perfect for key chains small and compact. The two receivers without the keyring are also great for TV remote (It comes with double sided tape).

I did realize that you have to hold down the button for 2 second in order to trigger a response.
when in search for something I would keep the a button depressed and walk around until I heard the beep.

Overall this product surpassed my expectation I give this product 5 stars.

Item is good so far once I learned to hold the button down for a few seconds, just pressing and releasing button only works short range. Customer service was awesome to help me clarify my concern.

My wife is a professional with many important key rings. We needed a key finder system that had excellent reliability and long range. This set of key finders perfectly satisified all her requirements, easily locating keys across rooms and through walls. Even better is the support we received from the seller. There was a minor issue with our order, which was quickly resolved in a manner that convinced us that this is a company honestly dedicated to customer satisfaction. We heartily endorse both this product and the seller.

Just received this product today, and from the moment I took it out of the box, it did not work as it was supposed to. The receivers only worked inconsistently at best; they did not always beep in response to the transmitter button. This is a product that needs to be completely reliable, since the whole point is that you will most likely not know where it is. If I am looking for it in a certain room and it doesn't beep because it is malfunctioning, I will assume that it is not there. Also, the information said that it worked up to a range of around 60 feet I think, but I found that it only worked up to around 10 feet, and that only if it was not covered by something. This is pretty useless as well since the things I would be looking for would most likely be under something, and not be within 10 feet of me at the time.
In all, the product did not work as advertised and is useless as regards its function. A cool toy at best...probably worth closer to $10 than the $50 that it is currently going for.

These work great for finding things that you always use, but I wish they all had the rings on them. The ones that you have to stick on are a little bulky.

3.0 out of 5 stars a second opinion......., September 24, 2010

I manage a large retail store about the size of your average bowling alley. we use cordless phones, walkie talkies, scanners and the whole nine yards. We are daily loosing any/all of these. I bought this key finder unit to put an end to our misery and put a little more payroll into helping our customers instead of looking for the darn scanners and phones. the product came in on schedule and then it began... the batteries don't make good contact. the back covers don't like to stay in place. the screw holds them there but the plastic molding doesn't even line up. they beep at random when you're not even touching it. heaven forbid you need it, it's not going to work for anything. it worked for us once in 4 months. now remember - i said we loose our stuff daily. so 1 time in 4 months is off the charts bad. now we have really lost one of our scanners during one of our freight nights. this scanner costs over $5000. myself and 5 others searched for 2 hours till 1:30 am trying to find this thing. we gave up. using the key finder proved to be a frustrating waste of time, energy and apparently $$ too. it doesn't work, it hasn't worked, nor will it ever work if the company doesn't do anything to fix it. I'm so discouraged. now we need a finder for the finder on the scanner. help.

p.s. and no - 2 days later we still can't find that scanner. if the key finder would have worked it would have turned this 2+ day treasure hunt into a 30 second hiccup.

45 days later....
Apparently customer service reads these customer reviews.
I had a member of customer service contact me and offer to make things right. he trouble shot the key finders with me and ultimately decided that i needed a new set. he took the time to personally test the new set before shipping. it arrived in perfect working order. the second product works much better than the first.

a whole lot of customer service, a personal touch (testing the units) goes a long way. thanks ashton. you've taken this 1 star review and now made it a 3 star review. you made it right with me. hope you're reading this. now im making it known to others what you did, and how you back your product. Great customer service.

HEY! BUY THIS THING! HERE's WHY: This company exemplifies how the world of commerce SHOULD work. As my earlier entry below explains, my first encounter with the Orliv Key Finder wasn't great. The thing just didn't work right, and I hopped on to Amazon to write a 1-star review. Soon after I got a call from the seller -- a truly remarkable guy, I must tell you. He mailed me a free replacement -- and today I'm cranking my rating up to 5. THIS Key Finder works perfectly, protecting me from my own absent-mindedness by allowing me to "page" my cell phone, keys and purse when I misplace them. It's a great product.

But just as amazing -- perhaps more so -- is the way this seller responded to my critical review. He called me not to quarrel, but because he's dedicated to assuring that every single one of his customers is wholly satisfied. Any seller of an electronic gadget will occasionally send out a glitchy item. But it's the rare merchant who goes out of his way to make things right for patrons who don't even bother to tell him something's wrong. THAT's the point worth noting here: I didn't call him; HE called me!

It doesn't get any better than that. It never occurred to me that buying a key-finder could become an uplifting human encounter -- but that's how this turned out. To call this company trustworthy would be an understatement. I've been thinking lately that my seven siblings (who share my distractibility gene) might like to have Key Finders. I'd really like to give this terrific fellow more business. . . .

--------------------

MY EARLIER REPORT: Well, wonders never cease! A while back I wrote my first negative review ever -- because soon after expiration of the 30-day return period several of the tags in this key-finding system went crazy and started beeping unpredictably when I WASN'T trying to find them. It was maddening: "They're impossible to use," I wrote. "I've spent $50 to become a public nuisance? Lord love a duck! Merely the thought of doing battle with the merchant exhausts me. . . ."

As it happens, that's just the beginning of the story. I just got off the phone with the seller of this item, and I've never in my life had such a pleasant conversation with a merchant. He saw my review and came to ME asking to help solve the problem. He explained he's sold boatloads of these devices to satisfied customers and insisted on replaced my defective product with one that's problem-free. Have you ever *heard* of such a thing? I'll report soon how the new one works, but what's amazing to me is that this guy went out of his way to track down a rare dissatisfied customer and make things right. He was an absolute mensch and restored my faith in humanity. His call definitely made my week -- and it's only Monday!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets the job done, May 24, 2010

We've been using these key finders for a couple weeks now and they have saved the day quite a few times. Light-weight, easy to attach to anything that can get lost ( including our wondering turtle when she's in the mood to run out of our garden. I just 'velcroed' a finder to her shell and located her anywhere she tried to hide ) and so far, very dependable is how I would describe this product.

Can't commment on the battery life just yet but was impressed by the signal distance the beepers could be activated from. I'm gonna guess close to 20 yards. The only problem I've had so far that's worth mentioning is that the beeper volume isn't very high. You must have pretty good hearing in order to pick the beep from other common noises around you if the distance is more than ten yards or so and the 'finder' is under or inside something. I solved this problem by placing two key finders on anything easily lost or forgotten- inside a coat pocket for instance - where the beeper sound can be muffled.

These finders appear to be sturdy enough to take bouncing around in a purse or pocket and the main control appears to be well constucted. It would be nice though if a second controller with the same frequency could be purchased for those times when two of us go searching for that lost item. The set is a little pricey perhaps, but overall a very worthwhile investment in the fight to maintain one's sanity. Especially when life has you paused in your tracks and you've thinking 'now where did I put those?

Even though this is not an item that you use constantly, something seems to drain the batteries. Found myself buying batteries in 6 months or less. Otherwise its a great product and helps my son find his keys, etc. The batteries are not the cheapest to replace, and there are 6 remotes to keep working. Takes a CR2032, you may want to price the batteries before buying this.

This item is of poor quality. Some of the key rings especially the flat ones never worked. the key rings did work but after a few months theY beep any time and constantly although i am not using the main control to find it. i am at work away from home where the main control is and the beeping on my car keys just keeps going and never stops. Sometimes you have to keep pressing the main control until the specific key ring you are looking for finally beeps. i am so disappointed. this was a gift for my mom who always looses ker keys. i HAVE HAD THEM FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS.
DON'T SAY THAT I DID NOT WARN YOU!!!
