Product Description

Go wireless! Quickly and easily add rear-channel audio to your home theater surround sound system without wires. Use your existing home theater or stereo components, no need for special wires. Hear your favorite movies and music come to life using the latest 5.8 GHz radio frequency technology to deliver optimum sound clarity. It's easy to install, just plug it in. Eliminate the biggest hassle of home theater: wiring surround sound speakers. This wireless transmitter and receiver system save you from the hassle of running speaker wire to your surround sound speakers. Simply hook-up the transmitter to your audio receiver, then wire your rear speakers to the wireless receiver. This future ready wireless surround speaker system uses separate RF transmitter and receiver units and allows you to use higher-quality surround speakers than are typically found in conventional wireless surround speaker systems. The separate radio frequency receiver unit has a built-in high-power digital amplifier for the surround speakers, which dramatically improves sound quality over conventional wireless systems, and it can be used up to 400 feet away from the transmitter. Active circuitry reduces noise interference, and selectable radio frequency transmission channels eliminate interference from other radio frequency devices. The signal is transmitted using the LONG-RANGE 5.8GHz frequency, rather than the more crowded 2.4GHz or 900MHz frequencies. Applications: connect rear/surround speakers wirelessly to home theater system, connect outdoor speakers to indoor stereo system, amplify iPod/MP3 music to your speakers wirelessly, use speakers in other rooms through out your home/office wirelessly. Connections: transmitter has L and R RCA composite analog audio inputs and positive and negative L and R speaker wire spring-clip inputs, receiver has has positive and negative L and R speaker wire spring-clip outputs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good alternative, but spotty performance, questionable construction, January 29, 2007

First one came DOA from shoptronics. The funny thing is, not only was it not working, but it had been obviously opened, tampered with and the box had an RMA # on it and said "BAD". :) A quick call to shoptronics fixed the issue with a brand new and functional system sent to my door within a few days. So for the most part, I'm happy.

As for the item, it does what it says - transmits two channels of audio wirelessly. However, regardless of placement of either pieces, sometimes a loud "POP!!" and smaller crackles occur. Also, regardless of volume or signal tuning, there's an audible "hiss" sound - not good for rear surrounds just a few feet away from your ears. Maybe that's due to AC line noise, but I'm using 16ga THX Monster speaker cable and known-good sattelites, so I know it's not that.

In all, it's a passable trade off for people not having the luxury of running wires under the carpet (i.e. hardwood floors or in an apartment), but I think RadioShack could have made this one a bit better. All of the other alternatives used the very volitile 2.4Ghz range though and seemed to have their own caveats so who knows...

1.0 out of 5 stars Most deceptive info ever, August 23, 2009

The info section states 400 feet, the instructions say 30 feet(and I couldn't get to work at that distance)! It's also from RadioShack. This is the most dishonest information I've ever seen on Amazon and am extremely disappointed they let this occur. The equipment is junk, no surprise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says, June 9, 2008

I've owned this product for over a year and am purchasing another for my parents to run speakers from the living room stereo to a set of speakers I will put in the kitchen. I agree with the other reviewer that there are audible "pops" especially during the winter or very dry times. I keep the reciever unit turned off when not using it for just that reason. My receiver is driving a set of speakers in the kitchen and a set in the bathroom and works great for all of the music we listen to. This is a low cost unit and does what it says.
