Just what I was looking for - but I was really wrong!!!!,

I lost my 110v plug in ac/dc adapter for battery charger, however, I still had the plug in for my car. Searching for the correct 110v adapter was a chore I wish on no one and when found it was almost $20!!! I found this item while doing a new search and for the price I bought one, and to my surprise it has worked great. I've also brought it to work and used with my cell phone car cable to charge my batteries at work. Well liked and used. Great product and price.
UPDATE!!! 8.15.05 Today I mailed my charger back to the company under warranty because after 1 month of usage it quite working. If it is covered and replaced with no charge I will once again update this review. Until then I can't recommend it Update!!! 9.26.05 Today my charger was returned by the USPO and marked as "UNCLAIMED - RETURN TO SENDER". I tried a search for this company to get a phone number and no luck. This was a total was of my money and energy Do not every buy anything from "Wireless Technologies" Also if I could my star rating would be ZERO!

Only for low current devices,

Do not believe the misleading advertising that this is suitable for 'portable coolers'. When a cooler drawing 4 Amps is plugged into this converter it shuts down and won't pass current.
At least it didn't melt (like the 12 volt Y adapter did)! I've kept it because it's handy for PDAs and cell phones. However, don't expect to use it with portable coolers and compressors etc. Stick to the more expensive and puropse built converters for those jobs.

I keep one of these in my office and I have one for when I travel. Just plug it in the wall and plug your car cord into the adapter. Mine works perfectly and I can use it with my BlackBerry charger or my Sony charger. Good stuff!

For VERY low-amperage devices, does not live up to specs,
This review is from: Wireless Technologies Universal Travel Charger (Wireless Phone Accessory)
The specs for this device indicated that it outputs DC 12V up to 1A, but that is a gross overestimation. I bought this device to power some low-current car devices, radar detectors to be exact, with current ratings around 250-300mA. Plugged one in, as soon as the thing finished initializing it shut off.
Being an electrical engineering student at MIT, I took it down to lab and tested it, and found that whenever I exceeded 200mA the voltage would pulse and a bit over 300 the device cuts power entirely. This device is only good for low amperage devices, if your device is rated over 200mA I do not recommend it. I'm giving it a 1-star for its purposely deceiving specifications that describe it as capable of 5x the current draw it actually supports.

I lost my cell phone's AC charger, but still had the car-charger. Buying the Universal Travel Charger (herein referred to as "The Adapter") was a good money-saving option instead of buying another AC charger.
The Adapter is a little 12 Volt adapter for using a cell-phone mobile-charger inside the home. It has an AC plug on one side, and has a 12 Volt cigarette lighter socket on the other side, providing a powered 12 Volt cigarette-lighter-socket inside the home. It can't deliver much 12 Volt power, but it's sufficient and only intended for charging your cell phone with its mobile charger, which doesn't draw much 12 Volt power. It charges the phone's batteries, and also provides enough power for talking. For example, if you have a radio (with loudspeakers attached) that can be powered by 12 Volts, it would certainly require more power than The Adapter could deliver, since room-filling loudspeakers require significant power. But, The Adapter could probably power an MP3 player with headphones (which require much less power than loudspeakers). If you try to use The Adapter to power something besides a cell phone that draws more current than a cell phone, it's possible that a fuse inside The Adapter will blow out, leaving The Adapter dead. There is no user-resettable circuit breaker. I don't know if it actually has an internal fuse, so if you plug in something besides a cell phone and it seems to be working, then give The Adapter a feel every now and then to see if it's getting too hot. Hot leads to fire. That's why there should be a fuse, but I can't confirm whether there is one. By the way, The Adapter gets snugglingly warm when used with a cell phone. That's the way electronics are designed today. "Warm" is OK, "Hot" is not. In summary, the Universal Travel Charger works fine for using cell-phone mobile-chargers inside the home. I've had mine for half a year, and use it for hours per week. No failures with mine.

This product will work with units specified for low ampere. I bought the item to use with my air compressor, however, it did not work. But, if you want to recharge your cell phone, it will do the job.

The first charger stopped working within a day of use and I got a replacement from Amazon. The replacement worked ok for US (110) voltage but when I took it abroad (230V) and plugged it in for charging my cell phone it started charging for couple of minutes then stopped working. I was lucky that I had my usb charger with me and managed to charge my phone via that. I would not recommend this product especially for International use.
