this is like the first fashioncore pop-screamo album i've ever liked. i didn't even like these guys' ep of last year at all. this album is like the follow-up Finch should have made to their 2002 debut What It Is To Burn. what makes these guys so much better than all their black hair dyed peers; the drummer does a lot of fills, the vocals have a lot of great double tracked...

3.0 out of 5 stars its nothing to die for..
ASD seems to have made a stand to deviate from its roots that they set so profoundly in 'She Watched The Sky." Its delicately pieced together with extremely predictable breakdowns, meaningless bridges and lyrics that wouldn't even make my grandmother cringe. It's just not the ASD of old. However, maybe for all the "newer" fans of this band, thats a good thing. If you...

this is like the first fashioncore pop-screamo album i've ever liked. i didn't even like these guys' ep of last year at all. this album is like the follow-up Finch should have made to their 2002 debut What It Is To Burn. what makes these guys so much better than all their black hair dyed peers; the drummer does a lot of fills, the vocals have a lot of great double tracked harmonies, the overproduction actually seems to work in favor of the dual guitar arrangements, and there's a keyboardist in there somewhere. the metalcore breakdowns add some diversity but also make the band seem more cliched and the screamy vocals typically smack of effort but the songs progress fast enough for it to not be too much of a detraction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, November 5, 2008

I really liked this album; I first found their EP and I liked it, so I thought I'd get the new one. There is good variety on this album, I think. Screamo/hardcore has never been so good. The new vocalist is very talented.

4.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT let your first assessment of this band, either their image or vocalist's voice throw you off., August 29, 2011
In other words, don't judge a book by its cover. Many ignorant people will dismiss this band because their image is considered very "non-masculine" and the vocalist has an exceptionally high pitched *but crystalline clear* voice.

I too, almost made this mistake the first time I heard and saw them. This is not a typical throwaway emo/screamo band with post-hardcore beginnings. This is a band that can play music that is both aggressive and beautiful with melodies that defy the conventions of the screamo genre. The songs are always heavily dowsed by potent and catchy melodies that will be stuck in your head for days, and the clarity of the vocalist's voice is unbelievable. It sounds almost angelic. Ignorant people will say "girly," but if you can't hear the talent in his voice, you have no taste for music.

No, this band and CD certainly won't be for everyone, but if you have an open mind and like melody-driven music and can tolerate the high-flying vocals, there is some real art here.

It's not ground-breaking music by any means, but it's entirely enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars You had me at "I'm Not a Thief", August 12, 2010
This review is from: Wires & The Concept of Breathing (Audio CD)
I found this band on Pandora. The first song I ever heard was "I'm Not a Thief, I'm a Treasure Hunter" and I was hooked immediately. This album is definitely not for everyone, though. Some people find Jag's voice annoying which is understandable, but I personally love it. It's "different". He also has a very interesting way of putting together melodies.

I really love the guitar work on these songs. I think it's beautiful, and the melodies are so catchy. There's a lot going on in each song, but it's not overpowering or overdone (in my opinion). Some of the song lyrics are inspired by Final Fantasy (10 i think?) but the lyrics can still interpreted how you wish, and you can find some way for the song to relate to your life.

Stand out tracks:
Knights of the Round Table
City on the Edge of Forever
I'm Not a Thief, I'm a Treasure Hunter
my Disease.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazingly brilliant, February 14, 2009
This review is from: Wires & The Concept of Breathing (Audio CD)
this cd is better than their first cd (and their first cd was very good). it improves everything they did in their first cd, from the deliriously potent lyrics (literate screams or not) to all the different kinds of music behind the vocals. this cd has much variety in every aspect of the music. even if you think you would not like screamo, you should listen to this cd because you might like a skylit drive. i used to not like screamo but after i heard a skylit drive i adore them now. this is a beautiful album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic songs!, August 29, 2008
This review is from: Wires & The Concept of Breathing (Audio CD)
The main reason I love this album is the passion I can feel in the songs! My favorite tracks by far are the City on the Edge of Forever, the choruses are epic sounding, and My Disease. The only things I dislike about this album is the production value, it sometimes sounds a little muffled (not crisp sounding) and is a bit irritating. The screaming is a bit weirdly timed and not expected sometimes. The screaming does add to the intensity but I'm on the edge with their screamer he's so-so at times and great other times.
This album is more Glam-screamo then their EP but it works great!
Give the album time to grow on you though!

4.0 out of 5 stars new singer, new skylit drive, new, great style, May 20, 2008

I've listened to A Skylit Drive since their demo days on Myspace. I loved their last album, and was a little nervous that on this album they would betray the sound I had come to love. Well, it definitely is a different sound, but an even better one. With its technical breakdowns and amazing new singer, this album signifies an evolution for the band. ASD!

However, maybe for all the "newer" fans of this band, thats a good thing. If you aren't a fan of harder music but still like the occasional screaming, then maybe this is a great CD for you. But for me, this just simply isn't ASD. "Wires" really let me down but does have a couple songs I can listen to and hear that faint whisper of hope that the "A Skylit Drive" who wrote "She Watched The Sky" will one day be back in full force with a harder, more meaningful, and less robotic, album in the future.
