Book Description

September 9, 2002 1401810373 978-1401810375 1
Wiring for Wireless Sites is one of only a handful of concise, yet highly technical information resources devoted exclusively to teaching readers the ins and outs of installing equipment in a wireless site. A "go to" resource for site planning engineers and technicians, as well as professionals already in the radio and wireless installation and maintenance business, this book virtually eliminates hours of time linking generic electrical/electronic circuit theory to manufacturer-specific descriptions of cables before moving on to actual installation. Comprehensive coverage spans the spectrum, from equipment layout and wiring through grounding and lighting protection. Helpful learning aids are also included in every chapter to guide readers to new levels of expertise.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wirin for Wreless sites, September 3, 2011

I was very disappointd in this book. Information is old and antiquated. Ira needs to re-write this book to bring it in to the current century. Most of what he presents can be found on vendor website such as Protection Group, Motorola, Belden, Andrew and others. I had hoped to use this book as an aid to pass a certification test but the information presented was just too old to apply. Wish I couldet my monry back.

2.0 out of 5 stars Rediculous, March 15, 2004

This review is from: Wiring for Wireless Sites (Paperback)
This book is pretty unimpressive. Many of the facts are wrong and the author continually assures us that "...all you need to know about this is...". I don't know about you, but I want to learn everything i can get my hands on before I work on something, and nobody tells me what I don't need to worry about.

I'm not sure what the targeted reader is, perhaps an uneducated laborer would learn something about this book. Any electrician who has done any work will not really learn anything from this book. It even says that 20 amp circuits are typically wired with 16 GAUGE WIRE!!! I hope that was a typo! Anybody who is installing 16 gauge on a 20A breaker should not be doing electrical work. Regardless, I think that all of the antenna stuff would be learned by one day on the job as an apprentice. There was no reference to industry standards, codes and best practices.

The only good things that I can say about this book is that the connector pictures help in ID'ing connectors, and the section on dedicated lines between sites made me realize that I need to study them more.

I am glad that I only paid $16 for this book, not the $45 that the publisher wants. In my opinion, techs would be better off buying the NEC or something much more informing than this text.
