An encyclopedic and timely work of value to any Wisconsin birdwatcher.

First, the caveat. This book is from 1991 and as of when I write this almost 20 years old.

That said, this has (as of that date) all birds recorded in Wisconsin, and has range maps and information for every species including winter visitors, etc... So unlike the breeding bird atlas, this also has birds that may only pass through on migration, be here accidentally, are extinct/extirpated, or are usually only here in winter. Gives a history of the bird in the state and lots of info on the bird in Wisconsin. A lot has changed in 20 years, but a lot of this is still reasonably accurate. Would recommend this in conjunction with a more recent bird guide. I hope this gets updated some time - now with the internet and digital photos it would be really cool to have an updated version. Unfortunately the author passed away and I don't believe there are plans for a new edition right now. Until then I'd recommend the Atlas to the Breeding Birds of Wisconsin, which is more up to date and will be updated periodically.
