One of three excellent resources for Midwest Trout,
This review is from: Wisconsin & Minnesota Trout Streams: A Fly-Angler's Guide (Paperback)
I wouldn't personally rate this book as highly as I would, "Exploring Wisconsin Trout Streams, an Angler's Guide". However, this book remains quite useful. The most appealing aspect of this book is the detailed directions to fishing spots, as well as DeLorme Gazeteer coordinates for trout waters. The authors write in a very enjoyable style, so the book is pleasant reading. They try to cover a lot of water in one book; so if you're interested in a specific Midwestern trout state, but a book specific to your desired state in addition to this one.

I really enjoyed this book lots of great information about finding public access areas on Wisconsin trout streams. If you've ever tried to fish Wisconsin streams you know this can be hard. The only real criticism I have of the book is I wish there were more streams listed and some from South Eastern Wisconsin.Hopefully a second book will be written by these authors. In summation it is a great book and has come in handy several times.P.S. There is also a good hatch chart in the book.

These guys have spent a life-time exploring the waters of WI and MN, thus making them the resident experts of our time. I have used their book as my sole resource in finding the best places to wet a line. The chapters on MN waters are especially insightful! A must buy for the trout fishers of the Midwest!

That's how we generally refer to this book. This is the best book to have on hand when searching for new trout water in Minnesota or Wisconsin. The descriptions and stories are engaging and informative.
This book sticks to streams and rivers, not covering lakes of any kind. The hatch chart of nearly every bug you could imagine using on these streams, the tactics section, and the overviews of each region they discuss are nice touches. Don't purchase it if you are looking for any steelhead or salmon, as Shogren and Humphrey stick to the inland waters. But did I mention they're old? They've accumulated a wealth of knowledge and are able to relate it to the reader in a manner that's entertaining. If you are trout fishing in either state, you should own it, as it will become your companion and crutch.

I may have to get a paper bag to hold my book next year. You see it has travelled many miles in Wisconsin lying on the seat in my truck while I was trying to navigate to a new stream. I guess that I may have mistreated the binding because the front cover and a few of the index pages have fallen off. I love this book and just might give one as a gift this holiday season. It has repaid its cover price many times. I am excited to try south eastern minnesota next season!! There just aren't enough stars to rate this book! Thanks Bill and Jim! Excellent Job!

Best book ever on Fly Fishing. The authors are absolute experts on the subject. Try to encourage them to write more books.

This book is marginal compared to Ross Mueller's "Upper Midwest Trout Flies: and how to fish them" These guys don't get more than 100 feet off the raod, so how are they experts on these streams? Considering their age, I can se why they don't pound these streams to where the real trout are.
