Saints are gurus for our times?,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Life and Wisdom of Margaret of Scotland (Alba House Saints Alive Series) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is a very short and somewhat sentimental "saints are just like us story" not really geared for adults. It seem in general that there is a lot of effort to reconcile saints with modern views these days. The introduction states "saints are gurus for our times" and "people who share our concerns about money, power, politics, peace, energy, food, war, death, sex, love..." you get the idea.
In fact saints are people who practice virtue to a heroic degree and completely deny themselves for God and are irreconcilable enemies of "the world, the devil, and the flesh" as embodied in the current errors of the time period in which they live. Everything for them is completely modeled temperately and hierarchically on the Church's teachings and view of these things, (money, power, sex etc) but you don't really get that sense from reading this book. I would say it's more of a pragmatic look at St. Margaret, somewhat like a modern man would look like her, especially today (money, power, politics, peace, energy, food, war, death, sex, love). |
