Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

C.S. Lewis' wisdom, humor, and joy in life shines through on every page of the seven books that comprise The Chronicles of Narnia.  He gave each of his many characters their own unique perspectives on life--and each of them has something special to say to all of us.  In this treasury of excerpts and quotes from The Chronicles of Narnia, readers will find comfort, inspiration, and pleasure on every page.  While certainly appealing to the many fans of Narnia, this book will also hold special significance for those who like to final meaning in parcel-sized bits of wisdom.

More About the Author

Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963), known as Jack to his friends, was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably the most influential Christian writer of his day. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance English at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. His major contributions in literary criticism, children's literature, fantasy literature, and popular theology brought him international renown and acclaim. Lewis and his good friend J. R. R. Tolkien, the author of the The Lord of the Rings, were part of the Inklings, an informal writers' club that met at a local pub to discuss story ideas. Lewis's fascination with fairy tales, myths, and ancient legends, coupled with inspiration drawn from his childhood, led him to write The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, one of the best-loved books of all time. Six further books followed to become the immensely popular The Chronicles of Narnia. The final title in the series, The Last Battle, won the Carnegie Medal, one of the highest marks of excellence in children's literature. His other distinguished and popular accomplishments include Out of the Silent Planet, The Four Loves, The Screwtape Letters, and Mere Christianity.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, but nothing beats The Chronicles themselves, July 21, 2002
This review is from: Wisdom of Narnia (Hardcover)
The Wisdom of Narnia is an okay book, but is not better than other extra Narnia books I've read. This book is easy to read and a great way to quickly get your favorite quote from The Chronicles. The quotes are limited, but are in categories like:

1.Simple Pleasures
2.Kindness and Loyalty
3.Free and Equal
4.Creativity
5.Cleverness/Clever Council
6.Honor
7.Responsibility
8.Friendship and Fellowship
9.Wisdom of Aslan
10.Everyday Truths
11.Intelligence and Reason
12.Silly Sense

13.Common Sense
14.Bravery
15.A Lesson Learned
16.True Leadership
17.Fears
18.Reaping Evil
19.Bad Choices
20.Philosophy of Puddleglum
21.The Effect of Beauty
22.Faith
23.Heart's Desires
24.Fortitude
25.The End of the Beginning

The Wisdom of Narnia has an illustration on each page. If you are looking of a quote of Reepicheep's, find Reepicheep's picture on a page. How simple, yet, how dull!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Collection of Quotes, March 17, 2002
This review is from: Wisdom of Narnia (Hardcover)
Wisdom of Narnia is a nice little book containing some of the more uplifting and motivating quotes from the Chronicles. Great for fans of the books and contains quotes that apply to everyday life. Artwork is straight from the books and there are topics of the quotes from "The Wisdom of Aslan" to "Philosophy of Puddleglum". Something great to show people and to read to brighten your day or expand your mind.
