Book Description

June 30, 1975
This work retraces the original contents of the Fourth Gospel, before its text was mutilated by the early editors who made it fit the mold of the synoptic gospels in order to support the progress of the mission. The book discusses the historical events reflected in this Gospel, as they were witnessed by contemporaries, before interpretation gave the actual events another meaning. It describes the human personality of Jesus of Nazareth, his life and death, his public and private teaching, and, most importantly, it gives the real background on his spiritual mission. The book provides a portrait of the Galilean Master as his friends and adversaries knew him, before his life and person were deified, so as to serve as objects for the worship of the new religion. In separating history from legend, the book shows many ancient dogmas in a higher light: as symbols of enlightened wisdom which point the way to spiritual realities beyond the purview of dogmatic speculation. Contents: Introduction. The Master's Image. The Luminary's Mortal Life. The Aftermath. The Missive. The Authentic Doctrine. The Paraclete. Conclusion.

From the Back Cover

FROM THIS BOOK...

To those who were professing their allegiance to his name, he had become a "God." To others, who had never understood the real meaning of his doctrine, he seemed a victim of unearthly dreams. To later times, however, the radiant Master who brought "glad tidings" to the world has been transmitted in an image that only in the barest outline still retains some faint resemblance to his real likeness here on earth.

Historians of his time took little note of his existence, but owing to the tales and legends growing up around his life, and also through a cult that used his name to give new life to ancient mystic rites, he became a great enigma, fraught with contradictions, and has remained so to this day.

The greatest work that ever man on earth was able to accomplish was accomplished once on Golgotha: for in that death upon the cross the destiny of mortal man, of all humanity, has been set free from cosmic thraldom.

Condemned as "heretics," John's pupils passed into obscurity, and with them vanished the authentic image of the Master, who never in his life had claimed that he was the "Messiah," and who, indeed, would have considered it a desecration of his words to base himself on sayings of the ancient prophets, which must be seen in a quite different light, but wherein other minds - when he himself had long been dead - would fancy that he was "foretold."
