A Tree Lovers Dream,
By "xkalaber_" (Maine, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Wisdom of Trees : Mysteries, Magic, and Medicine (Hardcover)
This is a superb book in every way. First off, it comes in hardcover which I often prefer. The author discusses 21 different types of trees: birch, rowan, ash, golden gorse, alder, willow, hawthorn, royal oak, heather, holly, hazel, apple, aspen, entwining ivy, broom, blackthorn, elder, yew, nameless day, pine, and beech. Each section discusses three areas of each tree; mystery which provides historical information such as where it came from, who transplanted it, who worshiped it in older times, and its life span; the trees magical use for spells and what its main power is; healing is discussed and how each tree has special healing abilities. The author also provides information on the Ogham Alphabet (the celtic tree calendar along with symbols). What is extra special about this book are the photographs. They are full size pictures of the trees in various surroundings and in color. There are no artists interpretation of what the tree looks like, this book shows you the trees in the best photos of trees I have ever seen in a book. If you are looking for a book about trees, what their magical use is, what they represent, etc., then this is the book for you. With incredible amounts of information combined with excellent photographs, personaly, I feel you would be hard pressed to find a better book about trees anywhere. Blessed Be.

Wisdom is What You Will Receive,

This review is from: The Wisdom of Trees : Mysteries, Magic, and Medicine (Hardcover)
"The Wisdom of Trees" is one of the most fasinating books I'veread yet. First off, I love trees and have books identifing them, etc, but this book goes beyond genius and familia. It talks about the ancient people from all over who worshiped what trees, what Gods or Goddess were watched over that tree. Also some intriguing information from where legends of witches and such started. I talk about this book to whoever will listen..LOL I highly recommend it to anyone interested in medicinal herbs, ancient practices...Celts, Norse, Greek, Egyptian..., planets, gems, history...I could go on and on.

I purchased this book as a gift for a friend of mine who wanted to learn more about the medicinal and magical aspects of trees. I was so impressed with both the research and the writing that it has now become a part of my personallibrary as well. Easy to read and very infomative!

This book is everything I was looking and hoping for. The photos are breathtaking, lovely and inspiring. The general information on each tree seems accurate and detailed. The folklore and significance of the trees is also covered. The oghams are also discussed in a way where she tells what is known, and doesn't improvise details like some other publication seem to do. This is an intelligent, beautiful book that completely satisfies.

It has beautiful display of pictures and excellent quality of paper. Besides this I think is kind of a follow up for "The Meaning of Tress" which I bought years ago. It also reminds me of "A druids herbal & sacred tree magic". So if your are indeed a beginner in this reading field maybe you should buy this one first. Also if you already have others books on the subject (ogham, trees, druids), the pictures make it worth the money. Note: the front cover is different from the one that's shown.

I've been selling off books from our library for five or six years now, you know, downsizing. This book is one of the ones that will never be sold. It is the perfect balance of hard science and emperical knowledge from our collective past. Its a serious read, at times some might find it a little dry, but its the science, myth, and history of trees. They have kept us alive on this planet for a very long time. This is written from the perspective of an herbalist.

This wonderful book is a gem, to be sampled over and over again throughout the year. THe pictures add so much to the wisdom of this book. The author spend a lot of time to get it just right. I even bought another one to give to a friend, after she borrowed it and could not say enough good things about the book. Get it if you can, you won't be disapointed.
