This is an excellent, readable overview of western philosophy up to 1959. If you are one of those who ponder philosophy and want an interesting discussion of the big philosophical questions as they were addressed in the West from the pre-Socratics through Wittgenstein, Russell's volume is masterful. Lavishly illustrated and very thorough, I found it delightful and helpful. Give it to your thoughtful friends.
