Wisdom for a Young CEO by Barry,
By Joseph S. Maresca "Dr. Joseph S. Maresca CPA,... (Bronxville, New York USA) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Wisdom for a Young CEO (Hardcover)
This book would be excellent for an aspiring CEO or someone
planning to own his/her business. The author advises to do something that we like intensely. A CEO must remember that the people in the organization are the first priority. CEOs should be honest and pragmatic in all of their business dealings. The key words are to "look, listen and learn". Above all, good leaders tend to be humble. Being humble does not necessarily mean being servile. It is an absence of blind pride in favor of agreeableness in the corporate culture. The book is an excellent value for a wide constituency of businesspeople, students and budding entrepreneurs.

I was looking for the "big" book, and when it arrived, I was quite surprised to find a little 3" x 3.5" by .5" book.
1 star to make sure people know what they are getting.

For the record, I like the content, but I mistakenly bought the Kindle version of the book and all the CEO letters are JPGs; they come out miniscule on the screen and don't zoom! I'm going to have to buy the print version just to get what I wanted from the book:the advice of CEOs in their own words.

Big Boss Wannabe,

Wow! This books exemplifies motivation by young people. This was a great idea by the author to find out what the "big bosses" are thinking. It takes a lot of time and patience to write 150 CEO's and most remarkable is Mr. Barry received over 100 responses and was able to transcribe his letters in this easy to read book.I think what the Kellog's CEO said sums up how we look at our boss from the employee perspective; "Your fellow employees need to believe that you are the best person for leadership and that you are the person that they want to willingly follow. What gains support of your fellow employees is hard work, fairness, good listening ability, courage, and being right on the issues." A fun and fast read! Definitely an important reference for the professional development library. Check it out!

The letters from the CEO's are great but I could live without Mr. Barry's copy - however doing so would mean cutting the book by two-thirds.

Advice for a Young CEO,
By Deremiah *CPE "Inspirational Speaking Star & ... (Saint Charles, IL USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Wisdom For A Young CEO (Running Press Miniature Editions) (Hardcover)
Young Douglas Barry, has compiled an interesting series of responses from Corporate CEO's, Presidents and top executives on the things that really should matter to a broad range of readers. One thing I liked about the book is how easily it read. This format comes in handy for young teenagers and corporate types too busy to spend a whole bunch of time getting the plot. The diversity of ideas makes it another good read for people too easily put off by one persons philosophy. Because in this book you get several dozen different philosophies. But very few cross cultural executives which would have opened the door just a little more on the philosophical side from a broader global perspective. This book also has *Skip Ability...*the ability to skip from the front to the back without having to feel like you're being forced to move in sequenced order. I liked a lot of things about this book but I don't think the book gives enough detail for it to have adorned the title "Wisdom for a Young CEO". At least for me I'm looking for more detail on specific challenges a young CEO may have to face in their first years of running a major corporation. You know the kind of adjustments that could cause you to make a company succeed or fail. Inspite of that I still gave the book five stars because for the age range of the author this book is a good resource whether you're a teenager, young adult or late blooming business mind looking for direction and inspiration. I think it is an invaluable resource for so many types of people on a few different levels. I also believe you'll enjoy it if this review opened your eyes on how the book may work for you. Always remember that you get out of life what you give to life on the front end. Have a great day! Your Servant, Deremiah, *CPE

When I first got this book I set it aside for a little while and forgot about it. One day when I couldn't find anything else to do I picked the book up and started reading it!!! When I started reading this book I just plainly couldn't put it down!!! It was just amazing how someone a little older than I could be so successfull!!! I was impressed by many of the letters from a big portion of corporate America!!! The book was truly inspiring and gave me hope and told me to that I can do anything I want if I push my mind to the limits and soar!!! This book is an inspiring collection of business letters and leadership lessons from some of the most important people in the world!!! This book will teach teens like me an important lesson!!! I know some of you people feel like they shouldn't waste their time but, I promise if you read this book in some way it will change your life!!!

Ok for a HS project,
By Yoon Che (ROLLING MDWS, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wisdom for a Young CEO (Hardcover)
The book was very ok for a high schooler. He has the passion to succeed and lead in his future and asks the right questions to the right people. Since the wisdom is coming from the CEOs, it is not the wisdom of a high school kid. The CEOs are very sincere since Douglas Barry seemed to explain to the CEOs of his background and what he hopes to get from asking these questions. The advice from the CEOs are both inspirational and practical in applying to in life as well in business. I hope that the future CEOs will read and learn from this book.
