5.0 out of 5 stars Wise Words will be Read by Wise Parents!
If you love to read to your children, like you were read to long ago when you were little, than you will love this book! Remember those Uncle Arthur's Bedtime Stories that were the moral little tales meant to make us better kids? Well, these stories are reminiscent of those, and others, like Grimm's Fairy Tales, only based on the Proverbs of life found in the Bible. Each...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good stories, but their Moral doesn't match
Wise Words is a collection of fables that, of course, have morals at the end. The stories are much better than Aesop. Leithart writes in a way that is easy to read aloud to your kids. My kids are totally captivated to the end of each one. I heartily agree that Wise Words is "Family Stories".

On the other hand, I had trouble using the stories in the book to "Bring the...

Remember those Uncle Arthur's Bedtime Stories that were the moral little tales meant to make us better kids? Well, these stories are reminiscent of those, and others, like Grimm's Fairy Tales, only based on the Proverbs of life found in the Bible. Each little story is the perfect 'little read' to go with that goodnight kiss and can be read in about five minutes. Each story has a moral and great little black and white illustrations that my kids loved. Our family loved this 'once upon a time' book and it will become your family favorite, too!

Wise Words is a collection of fables that, of course, have morals at the end. The stories are much better than Aesop. Leithart writes in a way that is easy to read aloud to your kids. My kids are totally captivated to the end of each one. I heartily agree that Wise Words is "Family Stories".

On the other hand, I had trouble using the stories in the book to "Bring the Proverbs to Life". The Moral (a verse or two from Proverbs) at the end of each story only loosely correlated with the story.

Nevertheless, this book is written from a godly perspective and is good for kids to hear and parents to read. There's nothing like a story to really teach the heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wise Words is a book of good stories for the whole family., March 6, 1999

After reading the book myself, I found that Wise Words was not a book of stories written particularly for children, but for people of all ages. Each story includes a moral and a Bible verse that applies to the story. I enjoyed reading the stories and would suggest this book to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Grimms fairytales" + Proverbs = great stories!, March 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Wise Words (Paperback)

This is a great book for bedtime stories for kids, although I should mention that, in spite of what the publisher says, the stories do not take four-to-six minutes to read - more like fifteen-to-twenty.

The Proverbs are very well illustrated here, and this is good to show a child what these Proverbs mean. The stories are funny, and sometimes sad. They are a great addition to a family library.

One person that I know (an adult I might add)told me that, while reading the first story, he was unable to put it down. Knowing that he had an appointment, he forced himself to put it down. A moment later, it was back in his hand. He did not leave until the story was over.

Although the summary says "18 of his best stories", I know the author personally, and he does not have any more. Rats!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book with entertaining illustrations, May 20, 2000

My children loved the stories. They had great moral value without being preachy. My children, who are very artistic themselves, especially loved the illustrations.

We purchased this book so that we could read it aloud to our grandchildren. The first few stories are good and provided a basis for some conversations with them. However, as we progressed through the book, the stories became heavier and did not lead to good discussions. As our oldest grandchild said, "These are becoming intense".
