The ultimate do-over
Gerri Conklin is brainy, tall, and very smart, and doesn't have a really happening kind of social life, so when she gets invited to a charity fund-raiser by handsome, sophisticated Rance Wallace III, she feels her dreams have come true. But everything that could possibly go wrong with her evening does, and not even the comfort of her friend, rugged rancher Des Quinlan, is...

Second Chances with Magical Eyeglasses, March 1, 2010
This review is from: The Wish (Soulmates) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Wish by Diane Pershing is a wonderful story of a woman who makes a wish and has it granted with the use of a magical pair of eyeglasses.
Gerri Conklin is a self professed klutz. And once again she has embarrassed herself big time. In trying to win the heart of the town's most eligible bachelor, Rance Wallace III, she accepts his last minute invitation to a charity ball. Only her self-confidence plummets as soon as they arrive. She doesn't feel up to par with the other guests. Things go from bad to worse when she overhears some women talking about her in the restroom. Their hurtful comments make her flee from the ball, spraining her ankle in the process.
Now all she wants is to be able to do the last week of her life over again. She knows that could do things so much better the second time around.
Enter a pair of magical glasses and her wish is granted. Things don't turn out as she planned though, they turn out better. She spends the week with her friend, Des Quinlan, and things really steam up between them!
The Wish is a great read that you are sure to enjoy.

The ultimate do-over, March 16, 2005
This review is from: The Wish (Soulmates) (Mass Market Paperback)
Gerri Conklin is brainy, tall, and very smart, and doesn't have a really happening kind of social life, so when she gets invited to a charity fund-raiser by handsome, sophisticated Rance Wallace III, she feels her dreams have come true. But everything that could possibly go wrong with her evening does, and not even the comfort of her friend, rugged rancher Des Quinlan, is enough to console her. Gerri desperately wants to do the whole week of the party over.
Thanks to a pair of magic glasses, she gets to. Only this time around she sees a whole lot more of Des, who has suddenly become much more intriguing . . .
Gerri is a fresh and original heroine, and it's pretty easy to start out liking Des. But this book has a couple of problems which keep it from being a keeper for me. In the first place, Gerri doesn't seem to be completely free to do whatever she wants during her do-over, so she winds up hurting Des in some ways that seemed strange and unnecessary. Second, Des himself has a notion in his head that all women are ultimately unreliable, so he makes some weird assumptions and says and does some (frankly) stupid and cruel things. All in all, this book was a bit of a disappointment.
