Book Description

All she ever wanted was a chance to settle down in one place.

Thistle Nettlebottom knows her life isn't exactly normal. She travels the country with her secretive mother and bestselling author grandmother in a pink RV going from book signings to crazy research trips. She's never been to public school or had a boyfriend, but she can pick a lock and hotwire a car. One day the phone rings and they set a course to a tiny town that's not on any maps. Suddenly, Thistle finds her whole life changing.

She's finally found the home she's been searching for.

Thistle soon realizes that Desire isn't like other towns and she's not like other girls. The family she trusted has lied to her about everything her entire life and the things she doesn't know about herself could cost her everything. Her legacy as one of the most powerful witches the town has ever seen has made her enemies that have been waiting patiently for a chance to destroy her. Thistle needs to learn to use her powers to protect herself before they succeed.

Be careful what you wish for.

Thistle has a power unique even among the magic wielding witches of Desire. She can wish things into existence. At first she enjoys the freedom of having everything her heart desires, but she soon realizes that her power comes at a terrible price. She's losing her grip on her sanity at a time when she can't afford any weakness. Her enemies are closing in quickly, but she might not have the strength to save herself.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Most paranormal stories tend to be darker. However, the dialogue in this book kept me laughing. You'll still get your typical paranormal romance drama but with a likable character whose level of emo doesn't make you want to stab them. -- review by Amazon reader, Gluestick

I loved "I Wish." I just wish I could get my hands on the next book! I can't wait for the sequel. It reminded me a little of Lev Grossman's "The Magicians." (Except "I Wish" was more entertaining). -- review by Amazon reader, Charlotte

This book was awesome, I literally couldn't put it down. I started it this morning and kept reading until the end. The characters are wonderful, believable, and I connected with many of them. -- review by M.R. Merrick, author of Exile

The dialogue in this book is incredibly witty, something that I MUST HAVE in a good book. The author grabs you at the very beginning by the front of your shirt and doesn't let go until the very end. And after you have read the very last line, you will be immediately wanting more. -- review by Courtney Cole, author of Every Last Kiss

4.0 out of 5 stars Ready for the Sequel June 10, 2011
By Bekki
Format:Kindle Edition
I almost didn't read this book, based on the name of the main charachter alone, but I read this book over a weekend and was surprised that is was such a good first book for a new author. The storyline moved at a fast pace so it kept me interested and wondering what else was in store for Thistle and what other secrets she would uncover. I am anxiously awaiting the sequel to this book and hope it is as good as the first.

2.0 out of 5 stars I wish... February 7, 2012

This novel had a very interesting plot. I found that this book wasn't as good as I expected. It got very slow at some points and I found myself saying, "This is the end of the book?", because it ended quite suddenly. I wish... had a good story going for it but many elements just threw me off and lost me.

1.0 out of 5 stars I Wish...You had edited this book February 14, 2012

I can usually lose myself in any book, regardless of whether it's considered to be "real literature." I just enjoy being entertained. And I do tend to read books in the paranormal genre. In terms of pure entertainment value, this book was ok.
My issue with this book - and others like it that I've read recently - is the fact that the authors, or publishers, who may be the same person, apparently did not think it necessary to use correct spelling and grammar. For example: this book makes mention of "collage" students. Never heard of them, but I'm guessing it was just college misspelled. There were many grammatical errors, such as the prolific misuse of "its" or "it's," etc. This may not be important for some, but basic spelling and grammar are important for me, and when there is such a blatant disregard for them, it detracts from my reading experience.

Book contains numerous misspelled words, missing words, double words, and atrocious punctuation. Must have only used Spell Check but hard copy proofreading.

This was a pretty good book and had me guessing as to how it was going to play out at first. Very interesting way for a town to live. Other than some editing errors, pretty good. Read more

More About the Author

Wren Emerson was born on the mean streets of small town Kansas 30*mumble* years ago. She first put pen to paper at the tender age of 12 and wrote an epicly awful story. She then became publisher and editor in chief of a family newspaper which included articles written by indentured servants/siblings. It got rave reviews from all 8 members of her family.

Now in adulthood, Wren still enjoys bossing people around so she became overlord to a small army of minions; her true love, kids, a cat, and a dog. When she's not plotting to form a dictatorship she writes. When she's not writing, she plays video games, reads books, practices her iphoneography skills, and spends way too much time hanging out in #pubwrite on Twitter.
