Editorial Reviews

Product Description

The product of six years of writing, demoing, and
refining, Wish Upon A Blackstar is a masterwork
by master artist Klayton. Sixteen songs seamlessly
blend genres from electro and dubstep to rock and
orchestral, with an intricacy and precision seldom
heard in today s music. Truly epic in scope and
execution, Wish Upon A Blackstar will not only leave
a lasting mark on the always-changing landscape of
electronic music, but will also stand steadfast as a
remarkable statement of artistic virtue in a sea of
disposable trends.

Review

Klayton (Celldweller) has ruthlessly forged a
fantastic metal-infused dubstep sound tainted with
unholy guitar riffs and haunting, glitchy, and highly
nostalgic melodic work. When accompanied by a
growling and slightly robotic lead synth capable
of shredding the very fabric of reality, nothing can
stand in the way of Celldweller. --Dubstep.net

As ever, the production on [Wish Upon A Blackstar]
is topnotch, rivaling the most widely renowned
and respected producers in the industry, while
the musicianship is simply above the standard
industrial/electronic fare. RE:GEN --Re:Gen

I have been a Circle of Dust / Celldweller fan for years, and in general I really like his earlier stuff the best. This album, though really different than his earlier CoD industrial sound, is catchy. I expected to listen to it for a week or two and then retire it to the archive like many other albums I buy, but this one has stayed in the playlist since it was purchased.

It really is a good mix of styles. It isn't industrial, though it has some of those elements. It isn't dubstep, though a couple songs I would categorize that way. And it isn't pure electronica either. Stylistically, it feels very eclectic.

If you are into any of the above styles of music, this album is worth a listen. While not for everyone, it was unexpectedly for me.

I first caught onto Celldweller back in 2005, and I've been hooked ever since. Listening to Klayton's constant development and evolvement as an artist has been a truly wonderful experience. This isn't a guy who brings a band in to play for him - he does it all himself as far as the instruments are concerned, and has some production help along the way. Wish Upon a Blackstar has been several years in the making, but it was worth it. There simply isn't another album out there that I can compare this to. The quality of production is second to none. I cannot think of a better produced album at this point, and it's a testament to the perfectionism that Klayton has to his craft. The songs themselves offer great hooks and choruses, and Klayton has further improved as a vocalist.

If you like industrial, rock, dubstep, electronic music, darkwave, whatever...Listen to this, this is a masterpiece of organic and electronic music combined to make a truly wonderful sound.

Everything I said in the Celldweller review, except that on this album, Unshakeable, Blackstar, Eon, and the verses of Louder Than Words (the chorus falls flat), and The Lucky One are worth the seven bucks, even if you don't go for the lighter stuff.

The Mythos of a Blackstar. Some of the songs sound like they are of a personal nature. I think Klayton still has a lot to say.

Celldweller's first (self-titled) album is one of my very favorites of all time. So "Wish Upon A Black Star" had big shoes to fill. But once again, Klayton knocks it out of the park. It took nine years to be created and it shows--it's a masterpiece of synth rock and dubstep. As with the first album, there are deep lyrical themes which are threaded through the course of the whole album. These are the things which make Celldweller one of my two favorite recording artists (the other being Apoptygma Berzerk).

Not the best Celldweller. After hearing track 2 I was ready for thumping energy. Yeah, never got that feeling again. Don't get me wrong. Celldweller is awesome and you may like this album. Wasn't for me.

Amazing album, containing probably the most amazing work of Celldweller, fun, energetic and just addicting mix of everything we love Klayton for.
And for $6.50 it's pretty much a steal, this thing is godly! ;)
