A haunting romance,
This review is from: Wish upon a Cowboy (Mass Market Paperback)
In 1880, the evil warlock Blake Wolcott threatens the serenity of Creekford, Massachusetts, a town that allows Crafters to reside in peace. The newly arrived Blake has taken control of the town, making all decisions and eliminating by any means non-witches and any opposition to his reign of terror. Blake plans to deplete the town's witches of their power to supplement his own and to marry the one witch, which will turn him into an unstoppable dynamo. The only hope to save the town is for Hannah Lowell to travel to Wyoming to find, marry, and return with the powerful warlock, The Mackenzie.Jonas Mackenzie, a rancher, is the hereditary head of the Crafter's Guild. Only he, with Hannah at his side, can hope to stop the evil Blake. When Hannah arrives, she finds a formidable barrier in that Jonas rejects the notion of supernatural powers. He also struggles with his attraction to his wacky visitor, who begins to melt the ten-year-old iceberg that keeps his heart frozen. Even if he goes east, the odds favor evil over the inexperienced Wyoming warlock. However, we all know that love is the most powerful weapon of them all to defeat evil. WISH UPON A COWBOY is simply a magical historical paranormal romance that works because the audience will believe in the forces that the witches and warlocks generate. The story line combines the otherworldly elements into a wonderful Americana tale. The prime duo is an intriguing couple mostly because Jonas does not know whether to hug his soul mate or call for the straitjacket crowd. Kathleen Kane weaves an intelligent novel that leaves the audience dreaming of collecting and keeping the previous novel from this spell casting author. Harriet Klausner

This is a fun "what if" story. What if everything you've ever believed about yourself was a lie? Hannah and Jonas both discover truths about themselves that make life a little more difficult. Yet at the same time, they deal with each other and their new problems with laughter and a sense of humor, which I love to read about. Plus, there's Hepzibah, a great cat with a personality all her own. What a terrific story!

A fairly good read,

I had very high hopes for this book, and it did deliver for about 3/4 way through. The concept of having witches and warlocks in the wild west and their abilities were portrayed quite believably and there was definate chemistry between the 2 main characters. What disappoinated me was the ending. It seemed almost too rushed. The entire book led its way to the final confrontation between Jonas and the evil warlock which was settled in just a few pages. Having Jonas defeat the evil warlock simply by opening his heart to love and accepting his destiny was just ... a HUGE disappointment. An even bigger disappointment was Hannah. She was portrayed as spunky and stubborn, yet likeable and funny. But towards the end and especially during the confrontation, she suddenly became a simpering helpless female. At the very least she should have displayed some backbone and have faith in her aunt and her beloved. Still it was a very entertaining read up till the end.

Hannah Lowell needed help, both with her witchcraft and in defeating evil warlock Blake Wolcott's takeover of her New England hometown. Her aunt Eudora sends her west to find the missing Guild head, the MacKenzie. Jonas MacKenzie had been raised without knowledge of his magical background, working his ranch and mourning the loss of his wife and newborn child years earlier. The last thing Jonas wants is a crazy woman spouting nonsense about marrying him and witchcraft. The actual showdown with Blake was anticlimatic. The setup stated that people who tried to leave town were horribly killed. Yet Hannah leaves town with no problem and Eudora soon follows. I think I would've liked this tale more if the setting had stayed in New England or the West, but not both. Still not a bad story, but not up to speed.

Ms. Kane did it again. Caught me up in her character's lives as if I'd known them for years. I love the humor that always laces her stories and I love how she always ties up loose ends and gives me a satisfying, sigh worthy ending. Bravo!

This story, like all of Ms. Kane's books, was fun from beginning to end. Hannah's hilarious attempts at spells kept me smiling and Hepzibah's antics were so much like my own cat's, I loved it. Jonas was a terrific hero and the book was simply wonderful. But then, I expected no less from Kathleen Kane.

I love historical western romance and spotted this book at a yard sale..It wasn't what I am used to reading, but I was pleasantly surprised. The author "hooked" me by the first chapter! Although the witches and warlock thing is a little far-fetched I couldn't help but fall in love with the characters and Hannah's need to prove Jonas's heritage. The humor added to my enjoyment of the novel...I certainly found this novel entertaining and will be looking for more from this author! GREAT!!

I really enjoyed this book. the characters are wonderful and strong and the setting is very true to life. It is a fun book to read and I like romance with humor. I put it along with a few others I loved best this year like Fantasy Lover by Kenyon, and Anything, My Love by Cynthia Simmons. All page turners you'll love.
