This book is a departure from Baldacci's usual action/adventure thriller. Set predominantly in pre-WWII Southwestern Virginia, it's the story of a young teenage girl who loses her author-father in a car wreck and goes to live with her grandmother (also saddled with her little brother and mother, who's in a coma).While primarily a period piece and coming-of-age story, Baldacci still manages to weave some mystery and intrigue into the book, and the end result is a rich tale that really grabs you emotionally. After listening to the Audio book on the road, I bought a hard copy to keep.
