5.0 out of 5 stars A dynamite read!
WISH YOU WERE HERE is a book you won't be able to put down. The setting is enchanting--a fictional island off the California coast that you'll wish you could visit--and the love story between Zoe and Yaeger is fresh, charming, and entirely entrancing. I also fell in love with the secondary characters, the stubborn Deke and the fey-but-determined Lyssa. Their love...

3.0 out of 5 stars I really prefer her later books
This was not one of my favorite Christie Ridgway books. I much preferred The Thrill of It All and Do Not Disturb. I found the push pull tension between sisters Zoe & Lyssa and their intended men, Deke & Yeager to be tedious. I had to force myself to continue reading to the end. I also did not feel either couple had much chemistry together.

Zoe and Lyssa run...

Their love story is just as enthralling as that of Zoe and Yaeger. I've been a huge fan of Christie Ridgway's since her first category romance. Now that she's writing longer stories with a skill and grace few can match, I'm thrilled that I have more to savor with each book! WISH YOU WERE HERE is DEFINITELY a keeper! On a scale of 1 to 10, this one rates an 11.

Abrigo Island. Never heard of it? Well believe me, once you've read this book, you'll want to go back again and again. Is it truely enchanted, or does Christie Ridgway just make it seem that way? What are Zoe's secrets, and why is she always the bridemaid and never the bride? This is the type of book that will make you laugh right out loud on one page and cry on the next. You've got to catch the ferry to the island to find the answers and the fun. Then when you've finished reading it you'll wish you'd been there too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I Was There, April 4, 2000
This review is from: Wish You Were Here (Mass Market Paperback)
I almost missed this book! I decided to purchase it afterreading the many rave reviews. I'm sure glad that I did notmiss out on this wonderful story. This book contains humor, two romantic relationships, some sad moments and sensual, sexy love scenes. Zoe Cash and her sister Lyssa live on Abrigo Island . Zoe considers herself the unofficial matchmaker for this beautiful island. This is truly a delightful read. Enjoy the fireworks and fun. I look forward to Christie's next book. END

Aside from author Christie Ridgway, I have to offer my thanks to the editors at Amazon.com for this recommendation. I devoured this book in a day. On the bus, on my lunch hour, during dinner, after dinner...well, you get the picture. I mean, what more could you wish for in a romance novel? A super, sexy ex-astronaut, his big-wig NASA pal, and a pair of beautiful, joined-at-the-hip sisters, who run the Islands Bed and Breakfast Inn, set smack in the middle of a lush, fairy tale Island in the Pacific. No deep, twisting plots or dangerous villians here, just hours of pure escapist pleasure. A true love story -through and through. I will most definately be seeking our more books by Ms. Ridgway, and know that "Wish You Were Here" will be joing the good old 'keeper' shelf of my personal library. It is total enjoyment, just as perfect for your day at the beach, as for a rainy afternoon trapped indoors. This is one book you'll never regret buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yeager and Zoe will capture your heart., July 26, 2000
This review is from: Wish You Were Here (Mass Market Paperback)
What a wonderful love story. I, too, purchased this book after reading the great reviews and I loved it. Yeager and Zoe have such a magical bond that can't be denied. I would definately recommend this book to any romantics out there, and to anyone who needs a little romance back in their lives. You won't be able to put it down, but when you do you'll pick it back up and read it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful--a worthy successor to Susan Elizabeth Philips, February 17, 2000

I just finished this book last night. I enjoyed every minute of it and I am glad that there is someone else out there who can write the kind of book that is what I look for in romance. Zoe is just the kind of heroine that I love--and Yaeger is a hero to die for. Of course, the road to true love has a few bumps in the road, but wins out in the end for both couples. The secondary romance between Zoe's sister and Yaeger's friend is also a nice touch, and I enjoyed them both.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Modern Love Story, March 17, 2000

This review is from: Wish You Were Here (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a charming, humerous, sexy, and well-written story. It also was very touching, even haunting. Out of the numerous (and stylistically varied) romances I've read, this gem of a book would be on my top-ten. Treat yourself.

Sexual, sexy, hot. Full of clever surprises. Her writing is so vivid you're sure you're right there on the small California island where Zoe has sought peace and feels safe. And where she finds a great love, if she can muster the courage to start taking risks again: her wounded astrounaut is a man destined for adventure. Ridgway's charming wit and sharp, compassionate eye for people's foibles and desires make the book a sensual and emotional delight. I laughed. I wanted my own Yeager. And I turned those pages at the end to make sure two people I cared about made the right choices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Four people, two love stories, May 6, 2000

This review is from: Wish You Were Here (Mass Market Paperback)
Zoe and Lyssa Cash have been to hell and back in the past six years. Now they have each other and their island home, Abrigo, a refuge from the rigors of the past, where they run a bed and breakfast. Into this safe paradise come two very disturbed and disturbing men: Deke Nielsen and Yeager Gates. Deke is on an errand of family business, tying up loose ends from an estate left to him; his friend Yeager is accompanying him on a vacation that is part recuperation and part running away. Once upon a time, Yaeger was the country's golden boy astronaut hero; now, he is a disabled pilot who has been permanently excluded from the space program. However, Zoe, Lyssa, and Deke have also suffered losses which have left scars. These three have figured out how to survive - although they have also been left more than a little stunted, in various ways, in the process. Yeager has not reached that survivorship point, and is still struggling alternately with rage, grief, and denial. The life lines of these four people intersect on a tiny island off the coast of California, as CR tells four stories of loss, change, and love.

These characters are wonderfully written as the attachments and sexual tension develop between them. There is no big subplot or mystery in this book, just an unfolding of relationships in a protected, greenhouse-like environment. This allowed me to get caught up in the people-part of the story without distraction. Zoe's insecurities, in particular, are both poignantly and realistically portrayed. This is one of the most enjoyable stories I've read, and I wish I could give it six stars. The trailers on the back of the book make it come off a little flippant. Don't take them too seriously.

By the way, don't read too fast through the mud fight. It's so well written that you'll feel like you're part of it, and it's a scream.....

Why have I never heard of this author before? This book was sitting right next to SEP's FIRST LADY. I picked it up becuase the cover caught my eye (and it was sitting next to my FAVORITE author's new book). I noticed it was an Avon book so I just up and bought the thing. Finally read it...very, very great! I'm glad I picked it up. I very highly recommend it. Yaeger and Zoe's story is absolutely delightful. bye!
