4.0 out of 5 stars wishbones
***SPOILERS***

"Wishbones" is a pretty big departure from the Sarah Booth Delaney mysteries set in Zinnia, MS. Sarah Booth heads to Los Angeles & Costa Rico to shoot her first feature film, &, as expected, there is a mystery that follows her to both locations. In itself, the mystery was pretty boring & downright anti-climactic.

What happened? I miss Coleman. I can't stand Graf. Talk about an unreal character! 4.0 out of 5 stars wishbones, June 25, 2008
This review is from: Wishbones (Sarah Booth Delaney Mysteries, No. 8) (Hardcover)

I was more interested in Sarah Booth herself & kept wondering if she would return to Zinnia & allow us to continue the rest of the series in the MS Delta. This question remains unanswered at the end of the book, but there will obviously be future books in the series. Something big happens in Zinnia to draw Sarah Booth back (at least for the time being), so I can only hope that the next book will be set in MS. The setting is part of the charm of the series & the real reason I picked these books up in the first place. As far as Sarah Booth's love life is concerned, it's still anyone's guess.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ghosts Keep Spooking, July 1, 2008

My favorite character throughout the Sarah Booth Delaney mysteries is Jitty. Sarah Booth must say goodbye to her favorite girlfriend/apparition, but don't believe that the door to the spirit world is closed permanently. Haines never disappoints and Wishbones is no exception. There's plenty of ghosts, dogs, horses, and MURDER. A super-duper mystery that you'll find is lots of fun in addition to a fast-moving sleuthfest.

5.0 out of 5 stars another Haines' can't-put-it-down mystery, July 1, 2008
By
This review is from: Wishbones (Sarah Booth Delaney Mysteries, No. 8) (Hardcover)
Carolyn Haines is the master of so many genres, but perhaps her most unique contribution is the Delaney mystery series. WISHBONES doesn't disappoint. If you're looking for a great mystery with rapid pacing, you've found it. And you'll enjoy the irreverent treatment of the South's "daddy's girls." Sarah Booth and Tinkie are uniquely delightful characters that shatter any stereotype (positive or negative) that you may have.

I couldn't put this book down. I admit I was yelling at Sarah Booth to stop going places alone and to please put a leash on her big hound but overall this book was amazing! Action packed and hilarious as all Ms Haines books relating to this character are.
Highly recommend. A word of advice: Do make sure you have the time to sit down and read it because your mind will start to wonder what's going to happen next while you take a food or bathroom break from it.
A pair of Depends undergarments will be purchased the same time I pick up the next installment. Pays to be prepared.
Here's hoping for many more Sarah Booth Delaney Mysteries in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Matter Where She Roams, June 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wishbones (Sarah Booth Delaney Mysteries, No. 8) (Hardcover)
Regardless of where Sarah Booth Delaney roams, she is still one interesting character. This "chapter" of the series is again filled with crisp dialogue, wonderful characters, and a twisted plot. Haines is a master of writing cliff hanger chapter endings, so don't start Wishbones unless you are prepared to stay up all night reading.
It is interesting that her story moves to California and to Costa Rica (not Mexico as one reviewer said) and ends with Sarah Booth flying back to Mississippi. I hope she stays there, for you can take the girl out of the South, but you can't take the South out of the girl and Mississippi is where she shines brightest.

I absolutely loved the earlier books, but I think Carolyn has lost her way with this series, I know I keeping waiting for the whole Graf/Hollywood fiasco to go away and get back to something a little more----uh, reality based. I mean a faithful beautiful Hollywood actor who's only goal in life is to make Sara Booth happy----PUHLEEEEEESE! These books are losing their charm. Think I'll go back and see what Stephanie Plum is up to.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wishbones book, March 26, 2010

This was an okay book. Not as good as the earlier Sarah Booth Delaney books. If you are a fan you will want to read this one to keep up on her exploits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book..., January 13, 2009

This is by far the best in the Sarah Booth series. My only problem is I was left hanging and wondering what is wrong with Oscar and when the next book will be published.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wishbones--hanging loose, December 12, 2008
This review is from: Wishbones (Sarah Booth Delaney Mysteries, No. 8) (Hardcover)
Oscar might die. That's how the latest Sarah Booth Delaney mystery ends, very unsatisfactory. She is headed back to the plantation, which is good. But I feel it's cheating a little to keep us hanging so we'll get the next book. It takes a while for these books to come out! It's too "Perils of Pauline-ish." Carolyn Haines is better that this. The books are good enough to stand on their own.
This one, away from the plantation and with less of Jitty than usual was not quite as good as the predecessors, but entertaining, adding another dimension to the Sarah Booth story, and keeping us guessing on her own love life, which is okay.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Hollywood Scene, August 7, 2008
By
Fred Camfield (Vicksburg, MS USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Wishbones (Sarah Booth Delaney Mysteries, No. 8) (Hardcover)
Sarah Booth has made her venture to Hollywood to become a star. She immediately finds that Hollywood is nothing like Zinnia. Events are complicated when she is cast for a part in a motion picture that seems to be cursed. Problems in Hollywood follow the motion picture to a location in Costa Rica. The director has some enemies, including his children, and things emerge from the past.

Ssrah Booth's friend Tinky shows up on the scene, and together they put their detecting skills to work (not a paid case) to try to unravel the mystery. There are some bumps and bruises along the way, and a surprise at the end.

We will have to see what the future holds. I talked to the author at a booksigning last month. Keep an eye open for the next adventure. While you are waiting, you might try some of the author's other novels.
